North shore seems to be the most recommended
Only consider Mandeville, Madisonville, Covington area of the Northshore. Avoid Slidell, Lacombe and what some include as part of the Northshore, Hammond. Children's hospital in New Orleams is about 50-60 minutes away and St. Tammany parish Hospital has a Mary Byrd Perkins Cancer center.

Thank you for all the responses. 21 year old is actually going to UGA right now so he is “out of the house” and we all love LSU!!! He would be thrilled to transfer to LSU (and was actually accepted there) but out of state tuition was too expensive. We would establish residency and then he could transfer to LSU in the sports management program.

As for the 17 year old, right now we drive a hour and a half to UF Shands in Gainesville, FL and they are top notch.

North shore seems to be the most recommended.

Thank you to all!!

Dad of a cancer kid here

BR doesn’t do a lot things well but their St Jude Affiliate clinic is great. The OLOL Children’s Hospital is brand new.

My kid is celebrating 15 years being cancer free!!!

Good luck to you sir

You got dealt a shitty hand with those.

Jackson is out. Always.

New Orleans would be best or the chemo treatments but as others have said Northshore/Slidell (maybe even Mandeville/Madisonville, but that could be pushing it).

Baton Rouge... I believe the new children's hospital has a pediatric chemo center (not positive though). Properties south of that are available but are pricey. The prices drop a bit when you go north of I10.

No idea on Biloxi but they've taken far too many big storms straight to the face over the last couple of decades for me.

Biloxi would be my choice, hands down. People will recommend Folmandisonton and they have their reasons. Just not my cup of tea.

Maybe two public High Schools are decent (Ocean Springs & Pass High).

There are several high schools I would recommend before Pass High down here, but OS and Biloxi are consistently rated the best.
Schools like Pass and Bay are so small they don’t offer the courses my boys wanted. Those tiny schools of 500 kids might have a handful of AP classes, which could have an impact on the rigor of their out of state college applications.

If working in downtown NO, look into Slidell. There are neighborhoods that check your boxes (OT will tell you it is meth capital, but they are FOS). Pinewood country club, Oak Harbor country club, Royal are all decent golf courses with houses in or next to them

ALL of those are perfect.

OP, please don’t consider New Orleans unless you want to wake up like I do every morning hoping your car wasn’t the one they smashed the windows of last night. Today I got lucky. It was around the corner at Valence and Coliseum this time. Good luck with your move and consider the Gulf Coast.

If you have child undergoing chemo, then honestly I would relo to NOLA and probably look at Metairie in Bonnabel area or Old Metairie because of your proximity to some great hospitals like East Jefferson, LSU Med and Tulane....minutes away not to mention the evil empire of Ochsner. Downside are the public schools. You won't get the golf course unless you want to pay 7
figures in Metairie CC.

Not to mention Nola and BR will likely require private school for all of those kids which would probably not be affordable. I'm tired of paying for one

. Also need to be close to best pediatric cancer center as 17 year old is in his maintenance chemo phase right now.

God bless you and prayers for your son.

Jackson is effing terrible. Baton Rouge is pretty bad. Biloxi would be a nice place to live out of the four... but not close to any good cancer centers.

I would say NOLA then. Oschner cancer center is probably the best you will find in those 4 cities. If you are O-T rich, look at something near Metairie CC. Won't be new construction but very nice and your kids can go to private school or if they are smart they can go to one of the Metairie magnet schools. If you not quite O-T rich, buy a house in Chateau Estates, again not new, but nice, send your kids to Kenner Discovery.
