They’re looking to go operational in a few years. It’s obviously not meant to replace the armored humvee, but accommodate light infantry.

with a useful 3rd row? get an expedition.

eta: forgot mid 30ks. maybe a pre-owned XLT model.
otherwise do what most said and stick to Honda, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai.

The Brits have almost the same exact thing and I don't think they're huge fans of it.

She's had a sonata and loved it. She's hung up on the kia name that's why we're not going to look at a Telluride. That and she's asked two people she knows who have them and they say they're nice but they feel cheap.

I would avoid the VW Atlas. The Highlander has really good ratings on Consumer Reports(3rd in the midsize SUVs), The Pilot does but not at good (11th). The Subaru Ascent (1st) and the Kia Telluride (2nd) both outperform the Highlander.

CR has 12 recommended models in the list.

First 3.

you'd be much better off with a minivan.

Would steer clear of the VW. I’m just not a fan of Toyota or Honda. If going Japanese, look at Nissan Pathfinder. Rented that one in Atlanta a few weeks back. It would be a top 5.

You probably give the worst advice I've seen on this site.

Maybe things have changed , but all my life, at least for the last 30 or 35 years, the next year’s models have traditionally come out in Sept or Oct of the prior year... is that not the case anymore?

Yes, but they try really hard to get all of the old models off the lot before year end.

The third rows in those small CUV's are useless and take all the cargo space.

Get a minivan if you need three rows or step up and get a Burb.

Sounds like a Burb is out of your price range though.

I know Suburu is doing well, but if they would make a more masculine (boxy) SUV I feel like they'd kill it both with soccer moms (see Tahoes, etc.) and the 80% of men who would never drive a Suburu now.

What’s the general rule for getting a great deal? Wait until late December and try to get an outgoing 2019 before the 2020s come in?

You could have done that 3 months ago.

To each their own. That’s why there are so many flavors of ice cream. Toyota is butter pecan for me.
