A recent nonprobability survey conducted by LendingTree found 78% of consumers now consider fast food to be a "luxury" purchase due to how expensive the meals have become.

Half of those polled said they view fast food as a luxury because they’re struggling financially. This is especially true among Americans who make less than $30,000 a year (71%), parents with young children (58%), and Gen Zers (58%).

Americans love their fast food, but a majority say they are pulling back on their consumption due to high prices. The findings show 3 out of 4 Americans typically eat fast food once a week, but 62% of respondents said they are eating it less frequently due to the cost.

I'm not spending $15 on a fast food combo when I can get a lot better quality food for the same price or $2 more at casual spot.

frick em. Thats what $15/hr minimum wage gets you. Either they bring the cost down or they go out of business.

If true, it’s an eye opening statistic. Do they consider chipotle/moe’s type places fast food or not?

I’ll get a McDouble and small fries for $3.50 off the “pick 2” menu, every now and then. Typically when buying the kid a happy meal. Real combo meals are $9-11 dollars these days. You can buy two pounds of ground beef and a package of cheap buns for that price at the grocery.

Got coffee at Chickfila this AM.

A family of 4 adults in front of me (not fatties) paid $55 for breakfast.

I just got bogo spicy chicken sandwiches from Popeyes through Uber Eats for $6 and change. I picked it up, so there were no fees or tips. There are plenty of deals out there.

We are a family of 3, and got an 8 piece mixed with an extra side from Popeyes tonight. It was $30. I can get an 8 piece with 2 large sides from my country club for $30. Fast food sucks and isn’t worth it most of the time. We literally only get it for fried chicken and even now that’s not worth it.

Yep, but the "deals" only get you back down to what regular prices were pre-2021ish.

I’ve been hitting up Publix for fried chicken. 8 piece mixed for $10.95 I think now (used to be $7.99).. Thirty bucks for an 8 piece and one side is crazy.

Yikes. No wonder obesity rates are sky high

Will maybe get chick fil a once a month. I've even tried going out of my way to pick up nuggets for my 2 year old and she won't eat it. Refuses to eat junk food. Put her some of my lean ground meat, rice, and avocado on her plate and she ate every bite

I've got no reason to eat fast food. Too easy to spend an hour or two cooking for the week on Sunday and have all my meals ready to take out of the fridge and throw in microwave

It was a luxury when I was a kid in the 80’s…mom would stop and get us a happy meal once in a while and we were on cloud 9!
