From a layman's perspective it seems hard to blame anything ATC-related on this one.
I agree and it's only February and already I'm sick and tired of stupid mistakes causing plane crashes/near misses.

i wonder if clearer English would've helped

Probably need to go a few minutes back.
I think what I heard was ATC holding at least one jet (maybe the FlexJet, couldn’t tell) so a different SWA flight could depart and so the SWA jet in question could land.
Need an aviation expert to confirm but sounds like the FlexJet screwed up here.

Agreed. But some much needed and common sense infrastructure upgrades could reduce these occurrences drastically.

Basically the controller can enter a route enter the computer and the taxi lights will turn green directing the pilot where to taxi. If there is a conflict they will automatically turn red. It reduces radio traffic and is great for language or accent barriers. I’ve seen it a bunch in Asia. To my knowledge it’s not in operation anywhere in the US.

This happened to me and wife back in October. We were landing in Atlanta on a delta 737. As we were touching down, the pilot took back off. He came over the pa and apologized for that. He said there was a business jet that was too close for comfort on the runway. We circled a few times and landed.

The person communicating with the flexjet spoke perfectly clear english and is almost certainly a white guy. The flexjet just fricked up and ignored the call.

Waiting on Joy Behar or the like to say this was Trump's fault.

I bet that flexjet pilot is a white guy who got his job because his daddy knew someone, not because he was qualified

Yep, he couldn’t follow simple directions.
A nice find. Yup FlexJet literally did exactly what he wasn’t supposed to do after ground told him, clear as day what to do…twice.

Thats twitter link puts it pretty clear. Flex jet straight up ignoring instructions

Just pull up the iPad and draw it out. It’s not that damn hard. Also, clear left and clear right before crossing an intersection.

Eh, it’s a little confusing. There is a 31L and a 31C but not a 31R. 31L is tiny runway that looks like a taxiway if you’re using 4L to taxi. Still a massive frick up but I can see how it could happen if you’re task saturated and having a bad day.
We need to upgrade our ATC infrastucture. Our airports are just too congested these days. We have the best controllers and pilot population on the planet but these airports are just so damn busy these days.

The guy in the private jet is clearly at fault here.
That woman flying that jet sure had a deep arse voice.

The pilot on the SWA was so calm with his "go around" call. Props to that crew for recognizing the PJ was crossing before he even hit the runway.
