Because the OT is obviously impeccable and I figured this would be the PERFECT place to ask how one would navigate a deal on this sticker.

The current sale right now is 0% APR and $7k off sticker price. I’d also get a suppliers discount here as well. $7-$8k down. Sorry that I’m an OT poor that can’t buy it with cash upfront.

So OT, with all of your wisdom, how would approach this sticker price and what can be asked for to get a good deal? (Other than not buying a RAM)

Add in free oil changes, a full tank, and extended warranty and you've got a deal

Go up to them, do a test drive and the works. Get to know the sales guy. Make him invested in this sale. Then when it comes time to sit down and talk numbers, offer $41k total and nothing more. Then do not budge. Either they’ll talk themselves down or they’ll see you out quickly. If you really want a great deal, you’re going to have to be stubborn and willing to walk away if they don’t cave in

That actually seems like a pretty good price for a Laramie crew cab. That’s what Laramie’s sold for 7 years ago when I sold Rams.

If you are getting a current sale and a suppliers discount - you are not getting much more off in this market.

It’s a sellers market.

You want to negotiate? Now?

I sold an old clapped out 4wheeler the other day.

We agreed on the price over the phone. I told the guy in advance, if you attempt to negotiate in person, the deal is off.

He showed up, his buddy looked it over and started naming things that were wrong. I looked at the buyer and said, "are you buying it or not? Because I'll set it on fire right where it sits. It is... Meaningless to me."

There was a slight pause and he paid for it and left.

Any decent salesperson right now is going to tell you the same damned thing. There is no need to negotiate. None. They know it. If you don't buy it, 10 other people are going to try to.

Do a little research as to what if any further discounts are currently possible on that truck with basically what you want, look up dealers with it listed online, type up a nicely worded email outlining exactly what you are looking for, all costs included, line by line be very detailed and send it to sales people at those dealerships.

Back in November, I laid out a very specific deal on a Lexus GX and sent it out to all 12 dealers that had one within 600 miles. Got 9 replies that were absolute No, 1 no reply at all and a dealership in Chattanooga that did the deal exactly how I laid it out. Sales guy said it was most detailed offer he had ever gotten and it required zero work on his part. He said he told his sales manager I knew what I was doing, so they might as well just do the the deal.

Father-in-law bought almost exact same thing week earlier and is paying a good bit more cause didn't want to wait and just went to dealer.

when thousands or possibly tens of thousands of dollars are at stake it's well worth the extra time, research and effort in my opinion. May or may not work, but worth a shot.

Also, just guessing, but that might not be a bad deal right now, but haven't ever really dug into dodge to know

I bought a Laramie 4x4 in ascension parish in February out the door with extended warranty TTL for 48900. No way I’d buy a truck without 4wd but to each his own. I love the truck though . I also traded in a 2500 big horn which helped save on taxes

If you can only afford to put 8k down, need to look at cheaper options.

The Will Cover post above is solid.

From my experience, the sticker price is just noise. Don’t use it.

Instead, research dealer invoice (manufacturer to dealer) and learn the above and below invoice incentives the dealer is getting. There are some games they play to elevate invoice price because know most people now have access and negotiate from them and manufacturers give below invoice incentives to dealers.

Don’t fall for the warranties and other crap at end of process.

I usually study the chit out of the details (see Will Cover data insights) and go in armed and only when I either or both want to test drive or buy. Otherwise, never step foot on there as they usually make me want to take a shower.

When ready to buy, I ask them if they want to sell today, pls give me their best price. No games. Inevitably, they never do and there is attempt to game. Because I know all sides numbers and what the margin they target and my price ceiling and walk away point, I get deal closed on 2nd engagement (for my last 3 vehicles).

None of the normal negotiation tactics really work right now. Dealers can barely get vehicles on the lot and when they do they can’t keep them. They aren’t going to be strong armed when the next person will pay the sticker price.

Did something similar in 2017 and Lexus of Birmingham was the one who bit.

I’ll drive for $5k-$7k

PS: They want to buy it back for 80% of what I paid for it then with 50K more miles on it.

Pass, I’ll go another 4 years in it.

Wait until supply and demand swings back to your favor if you feel compelled to haggle.

Will Cover's Car Buying Guide

With all due respect to Will, this buying guide is no longer applicable to these market conditions.

What few vehicles dealers have to sell they sure as shite aren't going to sell them at a loss.

It's supply and demand.

Sad but true.
