This is a much sharper slowdown in New Orleans than we've seen elsewhere and it doesn't *appear* to be a reflection of changes in testing alone. Louisiana-wide, the percentage of new tests reporting positive has declined a lot.

The spread of COVID in New Orleans is now lower than EBR - which was unthinkable three weeks ago.

Wow.

It’s almost like this is a typical flu virus.

The real stats will be to look at deaths per month this year compared to last year, and I’d bet a lot of money there won’t be a significant difference

The reason the city spiked up is probably the same reason it spiked down. There was only one reason New Orleans got hit so much worse than other cities its size. Once that passed, there was nothing else to keep things going. Apparently New York subways are still busy in operation.

Remind me the last time we locked down an entire major American city because of influenza.

Been my argument all along that this will be a blip on that statistic. Probably unnoticable without some goofy scaling. Good thing with nukes the economy over it

Wishcasters will say this is only because people aren’t getting tested and dying at home

It’s because we had a huge event (Mardi Gras) that then ended. People caught it there and spread it to others. We have gotten through that. We don’t live on top of each other or have continuous mass transit like New York.

Yes, obviously the social distancing helped as well. Just saying that Mardi Gras is what makes us different (in a lot of ways) than others doing social distancing.

Almost as legendary as St. Mitch the Statue Slayer.
