Artemis is a waste of money political gift to all involved. If NASA were serious they would scrap the whole thing and ask SpaceX to move faster with more $$$.
The SLS rocket was sold to Congress as a way to use Shuttle engines and designs to save money and time, which has unsurprisingly not happened. But it's the only reliable way currently to get astronauts to the moon before 2030.
Trump's plan is to scrap SLS launches after astronauts land on the moon so it will be useful then be no more because it's way too expensive.

It sure would be a spectacle without Spacex. Supporting Ukraine while paying Puting to get us to space.

Why don’t we just copy/paste the plans that got us the the moon 60 years ago? Oh, that’s right. It was faked.

not sure if serious but just getting there isnt the mission. Artemis plans for a permanent human base to be established that will among other goals, serve a launch point for a manned mission to Mars. Thats the whole point of Starship......its basically an 18 wheeler for space.

I'm not sure if this is some kind of Elon-failure rah rah thread but I will say this. There's no way anyone else will catch SpaceX. Blue Origin is staunchly behind them in research or development. I have no problem with them opening the door to other companies but there's nobody remotely close to SpaceX in any way, shape or form.

Just curious but could the FAA under Biden be a bit to blame for falling behind too? Didn't they consistently delay test early, crucial test flights while they took forever with their "investigations"?

The same NASA that had to first beg Russia for rides to the International Space Station, then rely on SpaceX to carry astronauts in the dragon capsule, and when they sent their own it failed spectacularly and SpaceX had to bring those astronauts home?
That NASA?

Is this some sort of gotcha....NASA works within the budget it is allotted by Congress. Working with Russia was cost effective at the time. Boeings Starliner craft failed.......space travel aint easy and Space X picked up the slack. Acting like that was some sort of massive failure on NASA's part is ignorant.
As far as Starship and the HLS......Would you rather they keep pumping tax payer money into a project that isnt producing promised results?

Boeing’s Starliner capsule isn’t any more “NASA’s own” than Crew Dragon. Both were developed under the same NASA program.
SpaceX obviously did a much better job than Boeing, but it’s silly to act like NASA owns Starliner’s failure while SpaceX owns Crew Dragon’s success.

You really think it's going to take spacex 5 more years to get starship working?

A big problem with the Starship program is that they're trying to do everything with one rocket...land on the moon, go to Mars, transport giant cargo quickly across the earth. How well it does any one thing is yet to be determined.
Ironically, basically that same argument got Shuttle canceled.

It is NASA's failure when they keep throwing dollars at a program that utterly failed. I am sure it's just a coincidence Boeing also happens to be neck deep in the defense world...

In keeping up with that Starship thing, I don't see how they are going to get it reusable any time soon. It scorches every time it reenters and something burns off or holes burn through it. On the edges of the fin things edges burn off. And Musk wants that to go to Mars.
And, how is that thing going to land on the moon, kicking up all those rocks and not screw up the engines?
