it’s generally in the context of actual contact, particularly of us being the ones contacted. In that scenario, considering we would be faced with an alien race we didn’t know existed, and they had the ability to physically reach our world, they would be by definition more advanced than we are.
Why are people having trouble with this? We can't really make contact with current tech. They have to come to us and by definition would have to be more advanced.

Right, but it is unlikely actual contact would happen prior to our knowledge that there is advanced life on other planets.

We will know for possibly thousands of years that there is life before any actual contact is made.

It's either that or we're a bored deity's science fair project. See how we can characterize anything to make it sound ridiculous?

It's smart. Going to have to adapt the world's major religions if aliens are real.

How fricked would it be if aliens land and they belong to some fricked up sect that already exists?

Yes, it is far more likely that an all knowing, all powerful deity that has always existed created everything out of nothing, did the Adam and Eve thing, sent down his son to die on a cross 2000 years ago, and then we never heard from him again.

But as others have said, the vast odds are that they will be more advanced based on our brief time as an advanced civilization.

Of course there is life elsewhere. Space is infinite. All those galaxies out there will have life statistically speaking if nothing else.

Honestly, it would be kind of depressing to find out we have achieved the apex of evolutionary biology as the only planet with sentient developed life forms and we can’t figure out that boys have a penis, girls have a vagina.

NASA has to release all images with any FOIA request. Allegedly.

I'll tell you exactly how the religions will react to aliens

It'll trigger an arms race to convert as many of the aliens as possible to our Earthly religions

I have a feeling some would be omitted if deemed a "security risk."

Yes, but that doesn’t really mean any intelligent life is out there.

Remember the age of space, and the billions or millions of years that a civilization potentially had to colonize the entire galaxy. And yet, nothing.

Yes, that is the gist of the Fermi Paradox. You’re not really stating anything new.

There are dozens of possible solutions. We could be one of the first civilizations in our galaxy, or there might be some reason making galactic colonization unattractive (the most likely imo).

There could be probes in our solar system watching us, but they’re so small we don’t/can’t notice them. There are asteroids that come by us that we don’t see until they’re extremely close. But somehow we’re supposed to notice an alien probe several times smaller that is trying to hide from us.

Or we’re in a simulation and they’re testing how a civilization develops when it actually is completely alone.

So if and buts. Or the could be the natives when the white man rolls in. It’s 50/50 and in reality more so 70/30. Look at our world. Without the white men and Asians our world would be 7/8’s still living in huts and circling bin fires at night in village ceremonies
