NASA will contract Blue Origin for the rescue mission
Ok, I couldn’t say that with a straight face.

Fixed it for you. We are on Daylight time now, not Standard
Agreed. This is a first world pet peeve of mine that drives me crazy too. You’d think people would be screwing it up the other way by saying CDT yearround, since we are on Daylight time for like 8 months a year.

"Safety is our priority, so we'll be sending Boeing Starliner home uncrewed"

The test subjects are sentenced to another 6 months in captivity.

Yea, let’s try returning it home unmanned so it crashes on someone’s house cause they can’t control it
They need to burn that thing up in the atmosphere

Boeing to rename vehicle Starliner Max 8

With all that diversity at NASA, how could they not figure this out in record time?

Are these two Boeing employees or NASA astronauts? Talk about being pissed. 8 day mission turns into 8 month.

Gonna be a sell off of Boeing!!!

If Boeing was a Japanese company someone would have to be sharpening their swords by now.

This is just money laundering under the guise of space exploration at this point.
Normally I would say cancel Starliner immediately, but some companies are more equal than others.

Space X has crashed tons of rockets in the spirit of designing. Boeing hasn't crashed any yet, but doing so with people on board would be a terrible look.

Just posted the 4 flights of the starliner below
Are we talking about rockets in general or crew vehicles? You can’t cite SpaceX crashing “tons of rockets” and then limit the discussion to Starliner, specifically, for Boeing.

First, they are like 5 years late.
Irrelevant to what we are discussing... they are cost plus contractors, so they aren't losing money on this deal. A crash involving people would end that contract quickly.
It’s not irrelevant at all. The Crew Dragon and Starliner contracts were awarded at the same time. SpaceX completed their first crewed flight test and their first operational launch in 2020. Boeing’s crewed flight test got delayed until 2024 and then failed. And SpaceX did it at a 40% lower cost per seat (which may be an even bigger difference now, with all of the delays and issues from Boeing).
So yes - obviously a crash that lost astronauts would be catastrophic for Boeing’s space division. But this has still been a disaster for Boeing and failing to bring the vehicle back would make it even worse.
They may have recouped their development costs thus far but at some point they’re going to lose out on production if NASA punts.

This is a fixed price contract not a cost plus contract. Then and SpaceX signed identical contracts.
Last I read Boeing has lost over $1.5B and growing on this contract.
It’s to the point where one has to wonder if Boeing will walk away at some point. I think they are too prideful to do so… but at what point do they stop throwing money after this?? They clearly disagree with NASA here.

Right decision was made. No one trusts Boeing right now and we gave a functional backup plan.
This is not ideal for anyone including the two astronauts but this is the only responsible notion at this point.
