USA Today

Now some 60 years after we supposedly sent astronauts to the moon (we are still the only country to pull this off), we are now in another space race back to the moon.

It looks like after all this time we finally find out how to produce the technology again and it just so happens that China is finally ready to send actual astronauts to the moon this time around.

Interesting!

Will history repeat itself?

quote:

Soviet cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov died on April 24, 1967, when his Soyuz 1 spacecraft crashed during reentry due to a parachute failure, making him the first human to die in a spaceflight.

Launched on April 23, 1967, Soyuz 1 was a hurried and troubled test flight of a new Soviet spacecraft designed as part of the USSR's push to rival American space achievements.

So, if we went to the moon some 57 years ago shouldn't it just be a cakewalk to return. what am I missing?

You would think!. But we lost the ability to reproduce the technology apparently! So now we are having to do the same test runs we already did 60 years ago.

Well yeah, vacuum tubes are pretty hard to make nowadays.

believing man walked on the moon in the 60’s is an adult version of believing in Santa Claus.

You have to have a triple digit IQ to really understand that we (the US) walked on the Moon in July of 1969.

Pardon, your slip is showing.

probably missing this is all about grifting. same as the first time. it's all about people getting wealthy. no, not the NASA chief.

Isaacman isn't going to laat long enough to see either the US or China put a man on the moon. He's out on day 1 after the next election.

About 50 years in which we let the space program die. Once Musk took charge, interest has been rekindled.

Just think. It’s the middle of the Cold War, Communism vs Democracy. Capable U.S. and Soviets are battling for Earth mindshare for who is the best. Spies everywhere. No stone unturned.

If there was any sniff of falsehood to tge US moon landing, what a great gift to Communism to use to exploit and demean democracy.

Unless I missed it, Soviets were as silent as conspiracy theorists are loud.

We've been to Mars several times, using that criteria.
