Caesar wouldn't. have made the mistake of invading Russia as Napoleon did nor would he allow the Duke to chew up his best troops in Spain. He would've moved to Spain and beaten him once and for all.

How do you know any of this? Did you ask him?

Napoleon was a brilliant tactician early in his career but his later campaigns left a lot to be desired.

Napoleon's 1814 campaign in France is universally admired as one of the most masterful in all of military history.

Lee was essentially out numbered 3 to 1 for much of the war.

Waterloo

Won the battle over Wellington

And then lost the battle with the prussians afterwards

I'd give him a 1-1 for Waterloo.

And his record on the battlefield proves it. Had he been confronted by a more aggressive and decisive commander earlier in the war, his chances of surviving to 1865 would have been slim to none.

Did Wellington ever crush the combined armies of two major European military powers in one day on a battlefield like Napoleon at Austerlitz?

Did Wellington ever lead his armies into Prussia and crush the army that Frederick the Great built?

How often and what percent of Napolean's soldiers would you estimate went into battle barefoot?

Lol. Napoleon was kicking the combined armies of Europe's collective behinds for 15 years.

He is the greatest military commander of all time hands down and might be the most impressive human being to have ever lived.

All of this talk on Napoleon has me curious. I enjoy history and he is probably largest part of it that I know the least of.

Anyone have a good book or podcast I should listen to? I don't think HCH has one on him.

Napoleon was playing a G5 schedule.

Lee was playing a P5 schedule.

LOL the British were constantly bank rolling people to fight him including the Austrian habsburgs, the russians, and Prussia. They also had a lot of other european principalities to draw on. This is a sad statement.

The entirety of the Army of Italy was barefoot when he took command of it in March 1796. It didn't stop him from conquering all of northern Italy. Oh, and he did it while also being outnumbered and under supplied.

Podcast: Age of Napoleon - Hands down the best narrative podcast on the era. It's still ongoing but he is more than half way through the story of Napoleon's life and career.

As far as books are concerned, I would recommend two. The first of which is Napoleon: A Life by Andrew Roberts. It's a very good biography that I think most people who are interested in this topic will highly recommend. Another is The Campaigns of Napoleon by David Chandler. While the latter does offer some biographical information on Napoleon, it focuses almost exclusively on the study of his campaigns, battles, and the innovations he made in the logistics, strategy, and tactics of warfare.

Warning though: both books are long. However, the payoff is worth it.

Yeah.....

Napoleon Bonaparte never directly fought against Americans during his military career. However, there were some indirect conflicts between France, which was under Napoleon's rule, and the United States during his time as the Emperor of the French.

Lee on the other hand.....
