A daughter of my Mom's friend fell for this arrest warrant scam years ago. The fake reason for the arrest warrant was tax return inconsistencies and her failure to respond to a summons about it.
That’s a good one.
I wonder if they addressed her by her full name or not. Again though you should get official stuff in the mail for these types of things.
It once had an insurance guy trying to get me to change insurance plans and he sounded like a scam, so I verified with the insurance company whether or not it was legit before proceeding. Not even close to the same thing here, but I would try to verify as much as possible first. Then trying to act like it had to be done same day would be another red flag for me.

Don't do that. You'll be needing some help if your wife keeps giving your money away.

How old is she? Or is she foreign?

This didn’t actually happen. You just stole it from a podcast and changed some numbers…

How does that even work? As in how would you fall for that?

Yeah, I don't know any either but I also don't live in a small town.

If ever there were a proper time for PIIHB, it's now.

So your wife gave away 17K without talking to you. That’s the biggest problem here…..mine would never do that hell she’d need me to access 17K

A. Never happened and we are being trolled.
B. You are about to be served with divorce papers from the lawyer she hired with the money while she runs off with the FBI guy.

They originally asked for $7,000 and she went into the bank and withdrew it. She had to drive somewhere in Gulfport to deposit it in a coinme machine. I have both deposit slips. They then put another officer on the phone and told her they had made a mistake and the charges were for $17,000. She went to another bank and withdrew $10,000. They then asked for another $17.000 and she drove to the Ocean Springs sheriffs dept.

So she thinks the cops like their $17K in crypto? Didn’t set off any alarms in her head? And didn’t tell you about it until after the fact?
She must look really, really great.
Sorry for you loss.

honest to god, she's fricking someone and trying to hide it.

Every scammer’s number one trick is to get you as emotional as possible, as fast as possible. Any emotion will work for their purposes. It’s a brilliant psychological trick. When you’re experiencing strong emotions, your rational brain gets overwhelmed and doesn’t work as well. Your ability to think logically and see through the scammer’s lies is less than it would be normally. If they can get you emotional before they make you suspicious, they’re much more likely to talk you into going along with their scheme.
Psychological tricks reminds me of the Key & Peele Telemarketer skit.

I read half the thread and could'nt take it any more.
Am I the only one wondering, thinking how/what the primary, obvious question/issue & breakdown is here?!? Or perhaps I don't have a criminal mind or run with gangs and am totally missing something.
So your wife thought she could pay a 17k bribe to crooked cops and make either a legit or fake/bogus arrest warrant simply disappear!?!
WITHOUT calling an Attorney, the D.A. or consulting with her husband, parents or ya'lls FBI neighbor!?!
For $17 or maybe even $170 { BUT NOT, NEVER17K!! } .......if I DID have some fairly major CRIMINAL OR FELONY CHARGE........THAT I JUST SIMPLY, STUPIDLY BLEW OFF/IGNORED from my Past, and/or Did not FIGHT/DEFEND MYSELF in Court ?!?.......if ALL these wackadoodle, alleged past/present "things" occurred to my wife (but even then - it just don't add up.....there has GOT to be MUCH being Left Out)......I could maybe see someone in the mafia or underworld gambling the $170 in the hope that just maybe some other scumbag criminal or cop might make my LEGITIMATE & SERIOUS WARRANT from long ago disappear.
But Dude......17K!?! Come Now.....Come Clean!!

I believe your story.
And dont listen to these guys who are suggesting she's having an affair.
How has your wife been?
She is anything but unique for falling for this scam.
