Try not to be too mad, she’s probably more upset than you.

So your wife gave away 17K without talking to you. That’s the biggest problem here…..mine would never do that hell she’d need me to access 17K

My wife wouldn’t have responded. She would’ve shown me the message and I probably would’ve wrote back some snarky response and moved on.

If they want you bad enough they will show up at your door.

Just say attorney.

Also, I know it sucks and it’s hard to swallow but you will earn more money.
Take it in stride and with dignity and it will come back to you, maybe not in money but something else.

I'm not reading through 13 pages, but has it been explained how she hears there is warrant for her arrest (did she have any reason to think this would be a possibility), and her immediate reaction is to withdraw $17K?

If y'all want a story about a second level way these scams can screw you, a few years ago one was doing a similar scam but based around utilities (you didn't pay and now unless you pay $x now we are cutting off your power in 14 minutes). If the person wouldn't answer they would leave a voicemail.

They spoofed my office phone number to do it.

For probably a week we were inundated with people calling from 985 area codes, either crying and scared or pissed off to an unimaginable level. I had to make a complaint with the FTC just so it was on record because many people who called back said that they were doing the same.

The really bad part was when this started, my assistant at the time was a very meek Pentecostal girl who had no idea how to handle people who were mad. I gave her a bonus for having to deal with all the stuff

It's a common scam. They call you and say they have a warrant and you have to pay to not be arrested. Sometimes it's back taxes, sometime they make it seem like bond, etc. every couple of months the sheriff here has to do a social media blast because they start the scam again heavily

I have, many times. I do not recall them asking what I'm doing with the money. I do know they have forms to fill out and have to do an "override."

No one would be surprised if you were doing this.

Doesn’t make sense people fall for that. I just start laughing at them and frick with them if I’m bored. They wind up getting mad and hanging up.

Did the OP say if his wife was over/under 80 years old?

I have so many questions:

1. How old is she?
2. How long have you been married?
3. Do you share a joint account?
4. How easily do you and she drop large sums of cash like that?
5. What are her thoughts now that she did it?

Agree with other OT'ers. Something is not right about this. She is either wildly stupid or you are wildly naive.

Happened to someone I know, they told her they were tracking her location and that she needed to goto a bank, withdraw cash and then go do some coin transfer thing too. Luckily she could only get 5k I think out of the atm bc they don’t have a local bank. She googled the number and they had spoofed the local sheriffs department or something.

She was on the phone with them for like 2 hours doing all this shite

I received an email stating my address and that they hacked into my phone and found all these dirty things I did in the house. They shamed me for two paragraphs, and demanded money or they would blast everything on social media.

It was an initial shock, but after ten minutes of thinking about it and the past, I knew it was a scam, partially because I moved out of there the year before. If you are prone to reacting and taking action immediately (women), I can see how it happens to people.

Very sorry for what happened.
