Fireplace?

It’s probably cold in your house but nothing that’s gonna do you any harm.

No I took out the fireplace when I bought it. Hurricane Laura ripped off the chimney so we just removed it all together. It was ugly and took up a whole corner of the living room. Bad placement.

I bought my house damaged as-is after the hurricanes to add context.

Again, this isn't just about heat. I have work to do and it's not as simple as lugging a laptop to a coffee shop.

I wish we had options in Louisiana

What would that look like in this case? Multiple sets of poles, multiple lines, multiple substations, multiple power plants?

Obviously not.

He’s just being a giant vag. He knew exactly the reaction he’d get when he started the thread. He’s cozied up to his fireplace laughing at each of you. Gotta bump his post count while working so hard as a contractor. Probably using the outage as his excuse for being late to an appointment. Typical lame arse contractor.

People freezing is non emergency?

News to me.

Nobody froze in their house because of no power and 29 degree temps outside for a few hours.

Well you could go sit in your car outside, crank up the engine and then run the heater.

I just didn't think it would take 3 hours before a crew shows up. Seems inefficient

If a new pole or transformer was needed, and they showed up with that, it would be more efficient than inspecting and coming back with it. That’s all I’m really saying. They usually know the basic failure before they get out there.

They have restrictions on when they can work but I doubt that is in play here.

I like the way you phrased that. Sounds very suave. I'm going to start using in my daily conversations.

So a pole was damaged.

My guess at a timeline.

1) call received. Dispatch send out an inspector to locate a problem

2) inspector located issues and accesses the broken pole.

3) dispatch puts a work order in to replace pole.

4) repair groups loads a pole on their truck and loads up the second truck and heads to site.

5) work begins.

So that’s two trips from their yard to the site. Likely 30m+ knowing BR traffic. Plus time loading in the year.

3 hrs sounds like they moved pretty quickly.

You are the single most important thing to Entergy, so I'm in almost total disbelief.

Poles get crashed into a lot, police chases and ghetto drivers just seem to make them a preferred target now. I have 2 generators, a rechargeable power station, and kerosene and propane heaters so anything from a few hours to a few days is covered. Seems like it should be common sense and a basic preparedness plan to have backup power, heat, water, and food available.

Thank god for AELP. I have never been without for more than an hour or so, even when avalanches wipe out transmission lines.

They are incredible.
