I walk, run, or bike almost every day. I have seen probably 5-10x the normal amount of people out exercising during this shut down. It feels like I am in CA or CO, not LA.

While it will never be like the 60's or 70's, I have noticed more people in my neighborhood too- walking, bike riding, etc. It is actually refreshing! A lot of times I think half the houses are abandoned except for a car or two in their driveways!

This has been going on in my hood since week 2 of quarantine. At first it was family doing things together, now its more football games with just the kids while parents drink in the driveways.

Yeah we recently moved to the neighborhood we are in. Our neighbors are super cool and we hang out outside a ton. Covid19 has forced socialization which is cool.

Just the opposite in my area. College students are home since they can't be in dorms, or in class, or participating in sports, or working their service industry part-time jobs.
Yes, more folks home doing things outside with the kids because I'm sure many of those kids are starting to become bored to tears. There's no hanging around with their friends or having the structure of heading to class every weekday and after school activities to keep them busy.

It is so reminiscent of my 70's childhood it's amazing. I hope the young pups are getting a glimpse of why so many elders yearn for that old community feeling when we all went to the same school and socialized in the neighborhood and there was no internet to entertain us. It just felt HEALTHIER to be outside and connected. And it's so great to see it one more time.

All the mental health/anxiety/depression/personal fulfillment stats from the 80s/90s compared to 2020 end that argument instantly. The social science is clear on this. People are profoundly stressed out because of tech/social media misuse and feel isolated like never before.
The natural world and REAL social connection is the answer to much of what ills the modern world. Nobody wants an internet-free world, but a little BALANCE does wonders for the human soul.

It was absolutely a better time to be a kid. I wouldn't trade having internet access or modern video games for all of the bike rides, building forts in the woods, football games in an empty field etc.
Kids can do these now but they don't nearly as much as we did. Some of it is due to their helicopter parents not letting them leave their yard because they are scared they'll get diddled by some pervert.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with this one.
In the 60's & 70's, they were regularly doing all these things in North BR minus the daily violence.
