This is all very simple. Social media attracts extreme opinions and rewards outrage. Nobody retweets calm or nuanced takes. There is no reaction to share or argue about. Instead, extreme POVs and outrage get more conversation... as your post above is doing.
It's a continuing cycle, that spirals most social media platforms to varying extremes.

They are selling "clicks". Anything that gets you to click on an article makes them money.
