The damage caused by Hurricane Helene in Asheville, N.C., and the surrounding areas has caused rescue workers to resort to delivering supplies using all available resources, including mules.

According to the Associated Press and The Washington Times, mules have been one resource used to transport supplies to the city home to over 90,000 individuals.

One of the groups assisting is the Mountain Mule Packers, who shared in an update on Facebook Monday, Sept. 30 they have "two fully loaded trucks and 20' stock trailers" along with their "mules and equipment" to make a staging area in nearby Weaverville, N.C.

Each of the pack animals can carry 200 pounds of supplies, volunteer Mark Toberer told the Associated Press. Toberer's dozen mules will bring food, water, diapers and supplies to hard-hit mountainous areas.

That’s nice that the illegals are using their drug smuggling skills to help people

Convenient that there just happens to be a mule delivery group already in place in the mountains.

Is that Biden? And if so, unless that picture was taken within the last few days, I stand by my initial comment.

We have a major military base 3 hours from there, but needs presidential approval to use the assets. There is no excuse to have to resort to mules.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. I'm strictly talking about the picture. Obviously the national response has been less than pathetic.

Mules and alpaca are a great way to get supplies in to places totally cut off right now. Already trained to do it in those parts too.

We have a 100 mile ultra in my area every year. High point is up over a pass. They have an aid station at the top. Wanna guess how they get all those supplies up there?

ATVs/UTVs can also be utilized but cant say Im surprised mules are being utilized.

I hope that they give those mules all of the treats at the end of each day.

This is what bothers me. The support our troops who are currently stationed in the US could provide would be almost immeasurable. But we choose not to utilize arguably our greatest resource.
