New Orleans is a great place to live. I have to imagine that most of you BR-thumpers never lived in New Orleans.

Want to buy a home? Don't worry about investing in an area below sea level that flooded recently. Instead, go ahead and pay $350+ per square foot for a home that needs work and is a stone's throw away from a high crime area.
My house is above sea level and didn't flood, way less than that per sqft and nothing more than opportunity theft nearby.

yep it's a win win. Now that i really don't have to work I may just do something stupid and mindless like sell beauty products just to kill the time. That's what most of the stay at home wives of the dudes I work with do

Live in River Ridge. Close enough to drive to work and your family will not be brutally murdered.

He's a recent college graduate. Some of you baws have no reading comprehension, not everyone on here is 55 and wanting to live in some shitty suburb

I don't get the point of living in a New Orleans suburb. If I'm not living IN New Orleans, then the draw of the area is gone. A big plus about New Orleans is spontaneity, you can always just walk out of your front door and find something to do within walking distance (or biking at worst).

I've seen you say that you plan on leaving NOLA pretty soon. Knowing a little bit about what you do are you taking a fulltime EMR analysis position somewhere else?

I've been doing 100% remote work for the past 6 months or so.

Could you elaborate more on the range of this private security that drives around?
I'm not 100% certain of the boundaries of it, but it is the touro-bouligny metro patrol. Here is a link to the site, they may have a map on the webpage.
touro-bouligny security
They don't particularly do much, and I'm not sure what authority or jurisdiction they have if something were to occur, but just the presence seems like it would be a good deterrent

It's cheaper and I feel like a lot of people move to the surrounding areas when they have children.
I don't know, I think having to drive a few miles really isn't a big deal. I have a car for a reason. And I'd bet a lot of people don't necessarily live close enough to walk to work. I don't know anyone that does.

I'll be living towards uptown on St. Charles in the Tauro and Milan area. Recent college grad starting a career in NOLA. I'd appreciate any advice people have about the area in terms of safety, preferable grocery stores, utilities, elections, etc. Just any words of advice on any part of living in the city would be appreciated! Also any topics you think of that I didn't list are also appreciated.

I can't believe I wasted time reading through 7 pages of predictable trolling, but here's some truth.
My (then fiancé) moved to this area about 6 years ago. We spent 1.5 years around Audubon between tchop and magazine and loved everyday of it. We made tons of friends through adult softball, kickball, bar hopping, etc that we still talk to today.
We got married after that year and a half, moved to the suburbs, started a family, and still miss living in the city at times. We never felt threatened in any part of the city. Literally every transplant we met were much happier living there than they imagined they could be (not an exaggeration).
Enjoy the city!
