Go live in West Little Rock to be safe. Heights and Hillcrest communities are cool. Enjoy the outdoors where you can. Hot Springs is an hour away for a short getaway (mainly horse races). Travelers minor league baseball team is fun. Craft Brew scene is ramping up. Downtown has got some family friendly things during summer (movies in park; farmers market).

You’ll get out what you put in.

Yeah from Monroe it'll be a good upgrade. The west LR advice is sound. Very.

Southwest LR. Was looking at living in Benton/Bryant area. Any advice?

Nothing against Benton/Bryant - but there is not a lot to do out there. Great for families and getting away from Little Rock school. But in terms of fun things to do...play baseball (honestly Bryant has some of best baseball talent pipeline in the South...it is weird). I think Saline county is a dry county as well; so that is a big red flag for me.

Overall, that area would be fine, just a lot less things to do to have fun. If sitting at home or around the yard is what you plan to do; it is a great option. 20-30 minute drive to anything fun in Little Rock though.

Cheese dip was invented in LR. That's gotta count for something.

Go the Hillcrest area... I once lived close to Van Buren and Kavanaugh and it was awesome.

Its been wet for a year or two. I prefer Saline County to Little Rock but LR is ok too if you stay west. Sw LR absolutely doesn’t count. That’s an important distinction.

Are you a single man or have a family? If single, Hillcrest is a really fun area. Also a lot of apartments in the riverdale area which is close to the river trail and close to down town. If you are married and have kids, West LR is the way to go. Benton/Bryant or Maumelle is also good for families. Good schools. Cheaper. But more suburban with chain restaurants and strip malls.

First time I drove through Little Rock I saw a pregnant lady smoking a cigarette outside of the gas station. So that’s basically my impression of Little Rock and arkansas as a whole.

Little Rock is a decent place. Your average southern 'city' but a hell of a lot prettier and cleaner than anything in Louisiana. Lots of great outdoor activities and parks nearby.

Fun Fact: Bear Bryant was originally from Arkansas.

They are probably unrelated but I couldn’t live In Bryant, AR simply because of that association in my mind.

I travel to Little Rock often. It will be a huge upgrade from Monroe. The Heights, Hillcrest, and West Little Rock are the ares I would look in.

There is a lot to do within a 2-2 1/2 hour drive. I live a couple of miles from Lake Norfork, there is Bull Shoals Lake, three rivers with trout fishing up here, as well as plenty of hiking closer to Little Rock, I'm pretty sure. My son lived in LR for awhile, and it seemed like there was plenty to do most of the time.

Heed the advice of the right areas to live in and you'll do fine.

I know they like to convict people for murder up there for no reason.
