Utah is pretty nice for those who are worried about Montana winters.

Bozeman. It is really expensive if you are trying to get something like south la. But they are building so much affordable housing so fast the market can't keep up. There is so much land here that they can build out and dont have to build on top of each other.

And pretty soon Montana will look like the Colorado Front Range. The paradox is people flee to places like Montana, and their very presence ends up destroying what they came there for.

218 homicides for New Orleans in 2021. Hell, BR wasn't that far off with nearly 100K less people

all of the nice places in the country are unaffordable for the middle class.

When you say all the nice places are you really referring to just a handful of western states?

Define middle class? Married couple with no kids making 150k per year is a great living. Once you have families with 2-3 kids are you thinking middle class is more than 250k per year?

When I think middle class I think something like a married couple that's a cop and a teacher with 2 kids. It seems like there are a lot of markets where owning a home would be pretty challenging for that couple now. Yet every area needs those people.

Well crap. I googled "New Orleans Shootings 2021" and that WDSU story came up. Just went back and saw it was written in April 2021.

My bad....

Just an assumption on my part here, but this lack of attention to detail on your part could be why you continued to fail at catching that big whale.

Oh great, so one can indoctrinate our kids and the other can shoot them? No thanks.

Just a broad brush when you said nice areas. I’m thinking like resort towns, beach towns, mountain towns. These have always been very expensive to be in. Nothing new.

Yea I think middle class nearly perfectly defines my parents: firefighter and nurse living in the suburbs with 2 kids. I showed them home prices in their current neighborhood (in Tomball/Magnolia area) and they were floored how anyone starting a family could stomach prices like that these days

And it ends up being reflected in the uptick in rentals popping up everywhere

Provo and Ogden aren't cheap by any means.
The cheapest home available in Provo right now is a $362K 1100sqft house. The next one is just under $500k at 2000sqft.
a cheap house in Ogden is going to be just under $300k, and it'll be 1300sqft or less.

Outside of shitty Des Moines and the twin cities, that looks like a list of expensive places to live.

Affordable housing in Bozeman probably still starts in the low $400Ks.

Well that's good to read.
I guess the feds haven't been able to push through Section 8 in Montana yet.

Median household income in the USA is like 65k. Don't pay any attention to the pretentious posers.

There's a boat load of affordable places to live, in decent areas. Just not in hip or trendy areas.

I wouldn't consider a few block enclave surrounded by a shithole to be a "nice area" but we all have our biases.

That's kind of what I mean. Nola of course I guess is considered hip or something in many minds. I don't think so, but it's expensive as all hell.

Everyplace in this shithole state that I say is decent or above is stupid expensive. I know you are at the other end of the country, but all I hear is how bad prices are everywhere in the U.S. Where are these "affordable" decent areas that aren't 75 miles from the nearest city?
