I know you are at the other end of the country, but all I hear is how bad prices are everywhere in the U.S. Where are these "affordable" decent areas that aren't 75 miles from the nearest city?

The problem is that over the past 10-15 years most of the white collar jobs have become more concentrated in 10-15 metros. Maybe Covid and more remote work opportunities will ease this some.

Almost any mid sized city or smaller city. Lincoln, Huntsville, Grand Rapids...shite even Tampa/St Pete...

Urban outflow was harsh the last two years in traditional large cities and it's not going to get any better. A lot of people saw the light and are leaving the expensive cities.

The rapid growth of mega corporations and the destruction of small business.

Everything became centralized and its now broken.

Kalispell averages 50"

Missoula only averages 39.5", which is only 11" more than the US average.

Ideally, I would want a winter home in Florida and a Summer home in Montana.

I bet that couple making $65K a year can't sniff a house in these areas.

And it ends up being reflected in the uptick in rentals popping up everywhere

And then those rentals turn to shite and homeowners flee and prices in that area drop and boom, another hood is born

Best decision I've ever made. I'll come visit regularly for the food, culture and family. But the time has come. Bye Latoya.

Could've just moved to East Tennessee, avoided state income tax, had good schools, 4 seasons, and been closer to home with excellent outdoor stuff as well.

they are building so much affordable housing so fast the market can't keep up. There is so much land here that they can build out

Sounds like they’re going to ruin Montana

Other than the housing costs, it's a pretty awesome place.

Those housing costs, though...

Pretty sure Montana has no state tax as well.
