Every single day my boring, dirt poor upbringing with parents who stayed married seems more and more like I won the lottery.
No shite. I lived a lovely middle class childhood. Just another reminder that I should stop bitching.

He is the best shooter I’ve ever seen. Growing up in Wyoming I watched him drop a mule deer over 300 yards out in a full run with a 7mm. He made many insane shots over the years but this was the best. Claims it was bc of Vietnam “because you only got one shot, or got shot” hahahaha

My dad build a massive fence from a picture in his yard alone with clamps at 67. To this day he still push mows his yard at 73 in this heat.

Dad was a carpenter at refineries in the 70-80’s. Which meant he built scaffolds and tore them down.
His absolute lack of fricks given toward heights. Climb off of a roof onto the top step of a 10 foot A-style ladder. Then just walk down the damned thing. That was just around the house. Can’t imagine the shite he did at work. In the 1970’s.
A buddy’s dad told a story about carpenters being crazy. Another guy, say a pipe fitter, lost balance and fell. Caught by his safety harness but dangling way the frick in the air. Called for rescue and waiting for EMS. The bosses had hell keeping painters and carpenters from climbing up there to get him. Especially the older (dad’s age dudes) guy. They DGAF. Basically all saying they had done way more dangerous shite than getting another safety line out to a guy.
It wasn’t NY skyscraper builders height. But after 50-75 feet does it matter?? Dead is dead.

Not giving a frick about my existence for years at a time. Being a dad myself now, I can't even begin to fathom this feat..truly impressive stuff

This is a long list for me. When youre young and dumb, you dont realize ability until you get older.
I watched him rebuild a plane wing. He had bought a piper pit bi plane, but before he flew it, he wanted to get used to taxiing it around. It wobbled pretty bad and completely tore up one of the lower wings. He re did the work work on the wing itself, then sewed the covering back on it. This process took a few months.
A close 2nd was watching him build a greenhouse using a trampoline.

Work a very exhausting job all day and immediately play ball in yard with us for hours when he got home.
And this was an everyday thing

The ability to tear up anything and everything he borrows from me or anyone else. Trailers, chainsaws, wheel barrows, etc.

He raised two sons to not be total shitheads. Looking at some of our cousins that's a pretty big accomplishment.
He makes it a point to call me every single day. Sometimes he makes up an excuse and pretends like he needs to ask me something and I know he's bullshitting me a little bit but it's awesome.

Most impressive... He worked every damn holiday he could until I was a teenager. Double-pay at Exxon was a huge boost for our family.
Anecdotally Impressive...
Our street had a dead end. The teenage girl in the last house on the street had an older boyfriend (17 or 18). Every day, he would speed down our street to drop off his lady. My dad eventually got fed up with it. The next time the guy sped past our house, dad pulled his Trans Am into the road and completely blocked the street. When the guy came back through, dad made him park and sit down in our driveway until a cop showed up. It was quite the community event. The preacher across the street came running out of his and said, "I was sitting on the can playing my guitar, and saw y'all out the window. Had to go see what ol' Skippy was getting into!"
The boyfriend did 20 mph going forward.

I just showed up at the end and scratched my name into the wet concrete with a tree branch.
I'm sure my dad appreciated my contribution to the project.
In fairness to you, if it was like my dad, I would have got my arse chewed out if i showed up anywhere withing 20ft while he was doing the work.
Probably would have brought him the wrong tool anyway if I did try and help. Nothing like spending 5 minutes finding a tool only for it to be the wrong one.

By far and away…Worked 2 jobs so my Mom could stay home with me as baby/kid! Shitty 2nd job / hours, too.
Gave up being with me so she could.
She passes several years ago. He and I are buds. I’d say making up time but that’s not true. Lots of time across lifetime. Just more meaningful reflecting on early days.

We rebuilt the entire back side of our house over a summer because of termite damage.

Sounds like your mom is a real winner.

Roll a joint using only his left hand (he was right-handed) while driving through city traffic. I'm not condoning it but I have to admit it was impressive.

It took her until her late 50s to grow up. She's fine now. My life is good and I hold nothing against her.

My father was just an impressive man in general.
One of 11 kids grew up poor in South America. Came here and became a world renowned cardiologist. Spoke several languages. Obviously a millionaire.
He would do everything himself. All he needed was YouTube. Told me if he had YouTube growing up he would have conquered the world. I believe it.

Worked his arse off to give me and my siblings a very, very comfortable life.
However, looking back, he spoiled us too much and didn't challenge us enough, which would've led to quicker route to success as adults.
But it was all from a good place in his heart.
