People who work from home don't usually have friends come over to hang out with them while they work.

If you have to rely on coworkers for human interaction then you need freinds

Read this to yourself out loud.

"If my job can be done remotely on the internet, it can be done from India at a fraction of what I get paid."

Play the long game.

Many are bound by client data access/storage restrictions to US only. It would be illegal to allow international access to things like Health Records.

Our current company restriction is that we must reside in state and be able to report to the office within 4 hours.

Unfortunately my division head is "an extrovert that believes that bonding and personal interactions are an integral part of team building".... she's 2 years from retirement, piece of s*** get the f*** out of the way.

Where else are you going to get human interactions while at work and doing so from home?

That makes a lot of sense when you consider how much a new car costs alone, let alone gasoline that's over 6 dollars a gallon on the East Coast right now. Add to that the comfort of working from home (and the convenience), and that tradeoff makes a lot of sense. ESPECIALLY if you're in a job that doesn't require a lot of meetings in formal or business dress.

And if you're in a place where the commute is long... an hour or more each way, with shitty traffic that flows like Molasses? (Looking at you, Los Angeles and Atlanta) then that $30K may even be a bargain. How much is your time worth to you, professional and personal?

Go to lunch with a friend if you can't be alone for 8 hours. I get plenty of time talking to coworkers on calls and have actual work to do.

If your company could have replaced you with someone from New Delhi or Manilla, they'd have done it by now. For all their desire to be cheapskates and outsource work for pennies on the dollar, most companies have learned some hard lessons about bargain basement remote IT from the Third World.

I would take the extra 30k but I also like having a hybrid schedule vs all in or all out.

I mean, I pretty much work from home or am out in the field and I’m maybe in the office a single week a year. If I had to be in a cubicle again for a 30K raise, frick that. The cubicle eats at your mind, and true freedom is priceless. I once interviewed for a job that I’d be getting way more money than even I do currently, but right after the interview I got an offer that where I cut my potential pay by way, way more than 30 grand, and accepted that position due to the work life balance. I’m making good cash now, but I’m talking like at worst the top 2% but I’d be working around 80 hours a week and have to wake up at 3:00 AM everyday. Granted I’ve still got a damn good job that allows me tons of freedoms and incentives, but I’ve very put my money where my mouth is. Granted if I was making 40K a year and you offered me another 30K to work in I’d probably take it. But in this point in my life, absolutely not. I’m free and I’m at the point where that’s not a price point of 30K. Now we start talking another 100K a year then I might have my ears perked.

Yeah, I’m gonna need another survey before I believe this conclusion. That’s not exactly a majority of workers in the whole workforce.
