Yes, I think increasing a tax coupled with a business climate that seems to be down right hostile to small business and the litigious nature of our state gives potential business owners doubts about whether or not to start a company, even an LLC, in this state and in this city.
There are plenty of states with higher taxes, hostile business climate, etc which are doing better than Louisiana.
You have a one dimensional economy (I’ll give you a have a dimension for New Orleans tourism).
Iit ain’t the conditions that you refer to that are the problem. But continue to do the same ol’ same ol’. Keep the same blame game.
You will be doing that 20 years from now.

John Bel Edwards is the only Governor in America that can't grow jobs in the roaring Trump economy.
He's the Curley Hallman of Louisiana Governors. He sucks arse.
And he needs to be a former Governor after January 2020.

And how did the governor cause this exactly?
By making it less attractive for plants to want to stay here and expand, i.e. tax breaks going away, like they almost did with Exxon, one of the largest frickin refineries in the world, and a plant that has a very indirect influence on so many jobs in the area.

Right and our Governor is in the middle of running the engine of that "one dimensional economy" out of town without one shite given to diversifying the economy.

The problem is too many people
In Louisiana cast their vote based on social/moral issues that the state, and frankly federal, government shouldn’t be involved in rather than economic or political reasons.
I don’t want to vote for more of the same. I want change. I want the state constitution changed to allow for across the board tax cuts and not this bull shite to where we can only cut healthcare and higher ed. That law/amendment was enacted to ensure government overreach and expansion continues forever.
JBE is not that governor and never will be. You say lots of places have higher taxes, and that may be true (although if you add up all of LA’s taxes we start climbing that rankings quicker than people like to admit), but a lot of those places don’t have incompetent schools, generally unskilled populace, and suffering infrastructure.
When you have that, you need to have incentives to help entice and develop the economy. Not policies equally or more business unfriendly as neighboring states with better education and infrastructure.

There's no question that the state's horrific legal climate hurts business. The business that I own needs some specific insurance riders that most insurance companies don't offer. The insurance company that offers the best rates won't write policies in Louisiana, because we have errybody suin' errybody all the time, so I have to pay twice as much for the liability insurance that I need to stay open.

Typical right winger. Thinks everything should be free. No taxes. Shut down everything and return to being uneducated hicks to be taken advantage of. Don’t need no schooling or universities. Don’t need nothin. Live bankrupt. That’ll be great.
We’ve tried that, Cletus, and it is objectively worse.

Right wingers don’t advocate free healthcare, excusing student loans, welfare, Fred college and a right to housing, food and a living wage.

Actually, he’s been quite terrible.

No, they advocate for no taxes at all, free everything, and step over the sick. Lower wages, eliminate education. They want Calcutta.

It's filled with Louisianians who have low expectations of their public officials and don't harshly punish them when they break the public trust.

What I want is the exact opposite of that. I want to be able to trim the budget down across the board so health care and higher education don’t take the entire $2 billion budget shortfall.
Do you know what the state budget was when we had that $2 billion shortfall? $23 billion. You mean to tell me the rest of the state government couldn’t trim their budget 10% as opposed to cutting two sections?
We’ve never tried to rework our constitution. Instead we’ve consistently voted for career tax and spend politicians that constantly and perpetually enrich their friends and relatives with the taxes extracted from working people and the seemingly fewer and fewer corporations operating in this state.
And please point to anywhere where I said things should be free. I understand the need for taxes to pay for infrastructure. I understand the need for taxes to pay for schools. What I don’t understand nor agree with is the constant need to raise taxes to pay for crooked and corrupt organizations filled with in elected, un-fireable people.

Lower taxes, yes.
Smaller govt. yes
Free stuff, he’ll no
Wages, you pay for what you get. Govt. has no role.
Eliminate education? Then why do many choose private schools over public schools?

What specific riders? Just curious. I carry a substantial GL that includes maritime and a large umbrella and while not cheap I find it reasonable. It’s one of my least complaints I should say.

Our taxes shouldn’t be used to support Cush nursing home rules. Taxes shouldn’t be used to give money to film studios. Taxes don’t need to go to all these NGOs to spend on high salaries and their friends.
Highway funds shouldn’t go to administrators and pencil pushers in lieu of concrete and steel.
