Eliminate education? Then why do many choose private schools over public schools?
Because people don’t understand that if we all chip in a little more, the public schools can improve considerably. Instead, we choose to starve the public system and, as a result, we have to pay $8,000 on private school tuition. Do you think the states with top ten educational systems just have more and better private schools? No. They don’t have nearly as many private schools. They have a tax structure which buys better schools for everyone.
So tell me how we save money sending our kids to private schools rather than paying a little extra to raise salaries and improve facilities at public schools?

Yes, that’s it. A little more money and I’ll send my kids to the Angola minor leagues found in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

Maybe there’s a middle ground somewhere between Calcutta and Venezuela

To be honest, is there a whole lot the governor can do? Budget cuts are limited by the constitution and the legislature is a joke.

Venezuela got to where it did by relying on oil and gas money to pay for everything, with intense corruption. We can get there real fast.

There are plenty of states with higher taxes, hostile business climate, etc which are doing better than Louisiana.
You have a one dimensional economy (I’ll give you a have a dimension for New Orleans tourism).
Iit ain’t the conditions that you refer to that are the problem. But continue to do the same ol’ same ol’. Keep the same blame game.
You will be doing that 20 years from now.
Okay. I'll play...
Comparatively speaking, Louisiana is one-dimensional. However, that one-dimension of Oil & Gas has a whole lot of technology and R&D advancements and opportunity to "diversify", if you will.
The problem is when you sue upstream operators for "damages" that were previously allowed by the state while simultaneously abandoning critical incentives to the downstream side for expansion, you're pissing off their leadership and investors. So when you do go to meet with said executives and talk to them about building that technology division in the state...they laugh your arse out the door.

No problem, big or small, in human history has ever been solved by throwing more money at it without competent people that are genuinely interested in solving the problem and actually know how to solve the problem. You and the politicians you support are not those people.

Sounds like people prefer the free market that will give their kids the education they want them to have over a one size fits all from the gubberment?

The mantra of big government liberalism.
Spending money to save money.

EBRSS tried that, it was a failure.
Had me fooled, I voted for higher taxes. They build schools, give teacher raises and spend money on discipline and the schools still sucked.
No, not all but way too many were poor or failing.

Venezuela got to where they are now because they kept electing socialist politicians who nationalized the oil and gas industry and have absolutely zero clue about how economies are supposed to work and do not respect free and fair elections.
Venezuela was once the richest country in South America and now they're a complete shite house with rats, violence, drugs, squalor and rape everywhere.

Imagine thinking the only thing wrong with Louisiana schools is funding
Posted on 10/2/19 at 10:34 pm to NIH
Just a little more money, y’all, and the schools will be great! The students will behave and their parents will be involved and everyone will diligently attend class and graduate!

JBE hasn’t been terrible

But his economic track record in the state is abysmal
One of the worst Econ records of any governor in the nation
Posted on 10/2/19 at 10:46 pm to biglego
Bingo.
Per student funding for EBRPSS is in the neighborhood of $17000 per student per year, which is among the highest in the state. That’s actually more than the average for all but 6 states, which tend to be either high cost of living or extremely small. Those states are NY state, CT, DC, NJ, VT and AK.
Unless you win the lottery and end up at one of Lee, BRMHS, or Scotlandville, your kid ends up at a D or F school for that amount of spending.
For that much in private tuition, you are capable of sending your kid to Episcopal, Catholic, St Joe’s, etc, all of which have excellent track records of providing education.

Nah. You are just saying the same ol same ol.
It ain’t the government’s job to diversify. We don’t like you socialists with your planned economy here.

Blah blah blah.
May be true. Lol
And, you finally get around to systemic issues that are there thru gop or Dem control.
You can slash the sales tax. You can give tax breaks. There ain’t a single employee from a decent state that is gonna jump for joy knowin they are moving to a state with the problems you have.
Ans im not touching your higher education system.

You say lots of places have higher taxes, and that may be true (although if you add up all of LA’s taxes we start climbing that rankings quicker than people like to admit), but a lot of those places don’t have incompetent schools, generally unskilled populace, and suffering infrastructure.
