BR metro loses over 2500 construction jobs since August of 2018.
BR metro unemployment rate dropped though, but it’s not because more folks are working.

I can’t wait for them to get Jindal out of office.

The Baton Rouge metro area saw the second-largest dip in construction jobs in the U.S. between August 2018 and August 2019—a period when construction employment was on the rise in most metro areas, according to a recent analysis of federal employment data released today by the Associated General Contractors of America.
BR metro unemployment rate dropped though, but it’s not because more folks are working.

Generally, local unemployment is down 0.3% from 2018. But it’s happening amid a dwindling civilian labor force, most recently totaling 416,645—down some 1,600 workers from a year ago.

Being unemployed and a SJW is the way to go. Look at Gravy.

Unemployment number is meaningless without knowing the number of people in workforce

JBE will use this to win re-election because the voters here are stupid.

Yes, having a lower unemployment figure but a shrinking workforce isn’t good.

JBE hasn’t been terrible (I don’t support his re-election though)
But his economic track record in the state is abysmal
One of the worst Econ records of any governor in the nation

And how did the governor cause this exactly?

By raising taxes state wide as well as putting tax break control into the hands of tax hungry groups instead of his own

So you think the small sales tax increase that the legislature passed caused a drop in construction jobs in the Baton Rouge metro market? Wow. That's quite a leap.

I know the poliboard has sunk deep into paranoia and no sane person wants to venture over there, but discussions about the governor's race belong on it, not the OT.

The image it puts across that EBR will frick you however it can doesn’t help spur development.

So it's voodoo? ok. Whatever.

What were the numbers pre flood? Could this be a contributing factor to the loss of jobs?
Posted on 10/2/19 at 5:02 pm to TBoy
More like the reverse of “voodoo economics”.
Without organizations willing to expand, jobs associated with them such as selling supplies, transportation, etc, don’t materialize.
fricking over Exxon for a small tax break impacts significantly more jobs downstream as a result.

Every time someone says a small tax this or small tax that, they don’t realize that margins matter, and most small and some large business operate on very minor margins.
Yes, I think increasing a tax coupled with a business climate that seems to be down right hostile to small business and the litigious nature of our state gives potential business owners doubts about whether or not to start a company, even an LLC, in this state and in this city.
JBE being a former trial lawyer also puts off the perception that this state will remain having higher rates of lawsuits than just about every other state. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but perception is a powerful thing.
I type all this to get to this point, small business and medium sized business choosing not to locate or open up in BR will result in lower construction jobs, and with tighter margins and budgets due to “minor” sales tax increases people may be less willing to invest in building or renovating a space for business, their home, or whatever.
It has been shown time and time again that taxes, even minor ones, do cause some slow down in financial spending.

Possibly some, but I would venture that most of the flood rehab had been completed by August 2018. What hadn't been completed by then was probably mostly DIY'rs, but that's just my own observations.
