You tried IMO you are in the clear. You don’t have to put yourself out to correct their mistake any more than you already have. It’s not your fault that first they messed up and second they wouldn’t take your attempt to pay. That’s on them.

ordered a new dryer from Best Buy online. Did the curbside pickup, brought it home and installed it. All is good.

Best Buy is a train wreck in my experience. Order a few more things and you won’t feel bad by the end of it.

Just wait, they’ll “catch” the error, note you haven’t paid, and send you to collections

The low IQ person working the desk when you picked it up never marked in the system that it was picked up so a week later when they looked at their orders outstanding it showed you "hadn't picked it up yet" so they canceled the order.

About 15 years ago I bought a $300 camera on my Best Buy credit card. frickers never sent me a bill and sent me to collections and dinged my credit without ever calling or anything. I yelled at them on the phone and it did no good. Paid off the stupid camera and didn’t set foot in a Best Buy for 10 years. I sure showed them.

Donate the exact amount to charity to erase the karma then write it off on your taxes.

Then write off the large energy efficient appliance and the sales tax.

There is no dilemma. You already know what is the right thing to do. You posted the question to hopefully have people convince you that it was okay to do what you (and the rest of us) would prefer to do. Doing the right thing is not always easy.

Call the store, talk to the manager, explain the situation, and take it from there. If he tells you to forget about it, enjoy the free dryer.

Send customer service an email stating your situation. Do not inconvenience yourself to burn gas and time to go to the store and discuss with the manager.

Express that you’d like to pay if someone could contact you with the ability to do so. Offer that you can pay online as well if they can make that happen.

That is all. If they contact you make payment. If they do not, save your email for your records and move on.

When Best Buy eventually goes bankrupt this will weigh especially heavy on you. A cross you will bear forever.

It shouldn't even be framed as a moral dilemma, honestly.

You made an honest attempt, you did your part. Your moral duty is done, you're good to go.

You tried. Set the money aside in case they catch the error and call back.

Move on.
