Moral dilemma. What would you do?

I ordered a new dryer from Best Buy online. Did the curbside pickup, brought it home and installed it. All is good.
Today I get an email from Best Buy saying that they cancelled the order bc I never picked it up. They refunded my money already.
Trying to prevent some future bad karma, I got online with customer support and told them what happened. I said I’d like to pay you for the dryer. She told me that in order for me to pay, I’d have to go into the store and talk to the manager. I told her I’m out of town and don’t have a lot of time, which is why I did an online order and curbside pickup. I said “just take my money”. She said “sorry there is nothing I can do. You would have to go into the store.
I don’t feel like going into the store and dealing with their screw up. I’m also not the type to take advantage of a situation like this. What would the OT do?

Dude, you got a free dryer

You know what the right thing is to do. The right thing isn't always the convenient thing.

You can pay me for it if you really feel that guilty.

You can’t call the manager? You have to physically go to the store?

As long as you made an honest attempt to correct their mistake….you should have a clean conscience. There is no way that you should have to make additional efforts to (again) correct their mistake.
Congratulations on the free dryer!

Hold onto your paperwork and go to a store and pay for it when you have time. If they resist taking payment then, walk away with your free dryer.

this is a tough one
if i'm being honest, i would tell myself i am going to go to the store and pay... but never actually get around to do it

No good deed goes unpunished. You will get fricked in some way trying to be a good person

If you’ve attempted to resolve it and they are tasking you with shite, Just set the money aside and wait until they catch their error and contact you.

I'm a generally solid dude but I would have tried what you tried. No way I'm going to that store to rectify their issue. If they want to figure it out bad enough they can.

With that stupid policy, I’d just keep the free dryer. You did your due diligence.

I would go to the store and try to do the right thing by paying. If they refuse to correct that situation then there is not much you can do at that point.
A few years ago, we booked a hotel stay online that we were to pay when we arrived. The hotel refused payment because they said we already paid Expedia and Expedia refused payment because they said we were supposed to pay at the hotel. I spent two hours on the phone trying to pay someone, but nobody would take my money. Sometimes it is what it is.

I bet if you called and were honest with them they would let you keep it.

Call again, talk to someone else or the manager, they should be able to fix it over phone or online or just let you have it.
