On paper mine is 27% of my gross. 35% of my net. And with taxes/insurance 40.4% of my net.

We can easily cover all bills with only my income.

The wife's income, which is more than mine, is lagniappe. Or would be if it wasn't for amazon, etsy, and makeup.

I’m looking at $4,500 a month after taxes when I move to Houston. Increase my mortgage I have in Baton Rouge by around $2000 a month.

At least texas is lowering property taxes so getting a small reprieve. My payment is going from 4800 to about 4500

I know people keep providing reasons why housing will remain this expensive, but it’s unsustainable and has to correct at some point.

While the circumstances underlying housing are different now, the last time I felt the housing market was unsustainable was 2005-2007. Then too experts were all over the media explaining why the market would continue.

ETA: and I pay inflated home insurance because of my proximity to the gulf.

When did you buy your home?

If you were to buy your home today, in 2023, at its current value, with today's interest rates, with a similar downpayment, what would the payment be?

Even if they are tough as nails and gut it out and build wealth, they still did it through a worse position than you or me. Stop feeling weak and defensive because they have it worse

People with a 3% mortgage don’t want to move and see that go to 7%. And so we have an insanely short supply of existing homes and high prices.

You can blame Biden for that but free money and low rates were in place for years before he took office. Everyone thought that was the norm and it will take a while to get back to reality.

You have the same take in these threads. It’s always the whiny young people’s fault. It couldn’t possibly be they they have be given a terrible hand to play.

The young folks these days are getting fricked over and you, Rodger, and a few other posters are just too willfully ignorant to see it.

There are going to be a whole lot of foreclosures coming up at some point. We make a lot more than most and pay about 1600 a month, including escrow payments. We live in a nice home in a good place. I cant imagine getting so home poor.

Yeah that's it. It's not the keeping up with the Jones's at all.

People are borrowing more (at "normal" interest rates), putting down less, and buying more home than they need.

Yes the economy, inflation, and mortgage rates have agrravated this, but the problem is not only the market, it's the consumer.

The democrats sold everyone the dream that everyone should own their home in the 90's, and people took that to mean they deserved a McMansion and the mindset has not changed.

They just have weak testicular fortitude and aren’t confident and comfortable enough in their own selves to admit another generation has it harder from a macro level

I have no issue admitting those younger than me have it worse. Doesn’t mean I didn’t work my arse off for what I have

everyone must play the cards they're dealt, it's kind of hard to define what's a worse position to start from, my parents were both depression babies that did a hell of a lot better than me?
