I'd guess they were somehow able to figure it out from Discord chats and rather than fly out there, they notified the local authorities..maybe. Just a guess.

-for months he sent her messages and gave her full attention
-listened to every little thing she said and acted like he cared.
-encouraged her to not listen to anyone but him in a slick manner.
-told her she was so beautiful she was an angel
-maybe sent her lovey dovey greeting cards from twin soulsmates dotcom.
-studied her to make her think they were twin soul mates
-stalked her every word online and where she went to eat, her interests, hobbies, accomplishments- and told her how great her achievements were-like somebody cared.
this isn't just done by child traffickers. it is also done by sociopaths & gold diggers. sociopaths have no life goals, can be perpetual college students in their 50s, are lazy, use others for free room and board, have delusions of insider information and are very convincing they are normal.
they tend to go after people who are braggadocios about having money or fame. or in a vulnerable timeframe-- to get them to pay for their student loans, cell phone bills, groceries, and get free pot.
this guy probably made money selling her and is a sick pedophile.
