Social media can quickly fill information gaps with speculation, conspiracy theories, and accusations before investigators have established the facts. While some people are genuinely trying to help, others jump to conclusions based on incomplete information.
So hiring a lawyer protects the family from a potential lawsuit. It's a practical step to protect their privacy, reputation, and legal interests while they grieve and while authorities complete their investigation.

Sure Jan. Point us to the actual links showing the parents hired attorneys before Crump was hired and before the family started a gofundme to sue everyone on the planet. We will wait while you pull those links up.

That very well could be the case. I don't know. There's a lot of claims that has been made in this case, and I don't doubt that much of it is false. It's been thrown around many times that they lawyered up immediately. That very well could be false.
But if they did lawyer up, typically you hire counsel to protect yourself legally.
But if they hired lawyers purely due to people being assholes on social media, that's the only connection that I'm not making.

The cops are wanting statements. And now there is pressure to find anything. You don't talk to the cops without attorneys. They are not trying to exonerate you. They are trying to pin something on you.
Thats basic common sense. And also basic rights.
Plus I hope they are documenting and recording what the race baiters are saying so they can sue them into bankruptcy.

They hired lawyers when it became clear where this was headed, which was well before Crump entered the picture.

If they did hire a lawyer, it was not just because people were being assholes on social media, obviously. It was because thousands of people were accusing them of killing their friend, and it was clear that news media was going to pick it up very soon and begin pushing the foul play and race narrative. Which they did.

Even if you're right, once Nolan was confirmed dead and his body recovered, its guaranteed that the police investigators were going to want to bring in all of the boys for questioning. And the social media accusations that "those white devils killed him" were already flying around before the body was found. Any responsible parent would hire an attorney if their kids were in the same situation.

I can see what you're saying. Trying to protect themselves from potential lawsuits that could come up while people were throwing their names under the bus. That does make sense.

The notion that retaining legal counsel makes a person appear more guilty is retarded and makes you sound like someone who would defend police tactics to force a confession even when innocent.

Uh yeah...did you know you could need legal advice even if you haven't done anything wrong? What a wild concept.
They're most assuredly being questioned, devices and property being searched, etc. you expect college kids to be able to represent themselves and know all the laws?
