I watched Chuck Lidell avoid being taken to the mat for years. If he can do it, Tyson could too.

This might be the dumbest comment in a thread full of them.

Chuck Lidell was a high school and D1 collegiate wrestler. You don’t just strut out of the womb with takedown defense.

Depends on the rules. Just like anytime a boxer faces an MMA fighter.

It's been made clear that this fight would take place in the streets. Streets got no rules.

Chuck Liddell punched his way out.

I'm not so sure about that. Have you ever tried to give medicine to a baby?

In the octagon, with both in their primes?

Ken Shamrock would submit him in less than 2 minutes.

Tyson has speed and power in his hands, but Ken would just go in in full guard, shoot the legs. . .ballgame

In a ‘real fight’ Shamrock would destroy Tyson.

How is this even a question?

It's laughable that people even think Tyson would have a chance. Lol

Shamrock used to throw hands pretty good early on, but admittedly, not at a Tyson level. Folks act like Tyson one punches everyone he ever fought. He had plenty of first round knockouts for sure, but often many tie ups that resulted in breakups in the first round. I think if Shamrock got his hands on him it would've been over as Shamrock would move to ground where he clearly has advantage.

I think boxing is one of the best self defenses to learn as far as a kid against a bully. Especially against multiple bullies. Saying that, and I don't remember the fighting style of Shamrock I have to admit, in my opinion, assuming he's Jiu-Jitsu???? Jiu-Jitsu is the best in 1 on 1, style vs style of fighting. To me having a base in BJJ and also learning boxing is the best. I'd take Shamrock in a one on one fight against Tyson just assuming he's good in Jiu-Jitsu but I was a big Tyson fan growing up.

ETA: Sorry, sentence structure there was below par.

I don't think it's laughable, one of the most intimidating boxers of his era, and in many opinions, in the history of the sport. I think Shamrock would win but I admitted earlier I remember him, just not his particular styles as I grew up a boxing fan. In a 1 on 1 fight, no weapons, to ever discount MT or say he has no chance would be wrong in my opinion.

Tyson would beat the stupid out of Kimbo Slice or Tank Abbott in the octagon, but not a skilled wrestler and shootfighter like Shamrock.

I'm one of the biggest Tyson fans out there. My fav all time. But yall are talking about a no holds barred fight.a real fight. There is a reason shamrocks nickname is the baddest man on the planet. Dude was juiced out his mind too. Their training and sparring are a thing of legends. Look up the lions den back in the 90s.

I agree with all that. I'd put my money on Shamrock also, but there'd still be a small bit of doubt in the back of my mind. I'd never count someone like prime MT out in a 1 on 1, again, I agree Shamrock would win.

There are pros and cons to every style and in the end it depends on the people executing the style. Reaction time, toughness, athleticism etc. The weakness of jiu jitsu is the takedown vs a good puncher or striker. In JJ you have to get close. I like wrestling for the takedown because you learn many different shots from different ranges. The best thing is to mesh multiple styles so that aren’t limited in any one area.

Either guy could win this fight because the mismatches are so stark in different areas, but The MMA trained guy certainly has more ways to win.

No...Randy Coture fought James Toney in a legit MMA Fight in 2010 or 2011.

I'd use that fight as a reference as to what would likely happen between Tyson and Shamrock in an MMA setting if they fought. Shamrock takes him down and finishes easy. And i'm a huge Tyson fan saying this...and I never particularly cared for Shamrock.
