Middle school

In a video released on YouTube by Sunrise Park Middle School, located in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, officials indicated that the middle school would no longer be using “F’s” as part of its grading scale.

quote:

The school’s grading will “start at 50%” according to Sunrise Park’s Assistant Principal Norman Bell, and students will be strongly encouraged to turn in late work up to ten days after the assignment is due.

“So, we're only going to include in grades exactly what the student knows, based on what we want them to learn,” Principal Christina Pierre said in the video. “Therefore, grades will not include behaviors, attitude, tardiness to class, whether the assignment was turned on late or on time. There's other ways that we can communicate those things to parents and so they're not going to be included in grades.”

Just more of the dumbing down of America. The democratic plan to turn all young people into robot idiots, and it's working.

Everyone with a GPA of .40 and lower rejoiced. MN better be saving major $$$$ for unemployment bc a lot of people won't have jobs when they "graduate".

Jefferson Parish public school grading isn’t allowed to give lower than 50% as well. And if you make a D or F you have the option to retake the test to bring your grade up to a C.

Crazy.

This is just another example of them trying to change the definition of a word. In this case it’s the word “due”. As someone else mentioned, this will not translate well into the real world.

So they just stop at D?

I support this but there should be a late penalty associated with it. Never turning in work should not be an option. If you pay your water bill late, you pay a fee. If you never pay your water bill, they turn it off.

quote:

Except for the part about whether the assignment was turned in late or on time... I also agree with most of this. Schools give conduct grades. Schools inform parents of absences.

Academic grades should reflect academic performance, nothing else.

society will never thrive this way. you have to work for it. My son just started 6th grade this year. The lad has been wanting a bigger dirt bike. The wife and I both told him bring home all A's and we will buy you one. He has been working his tail off so far and i think he will do it.
