Western China and Africa

China is slowly taking over Africa, particularly port cities. They are already heavily involved in natural recourses in Africa.

It’s frightening how much control China is taking over Africa.

GM also decided earlier on to focus only on the truck models that aren't as reliant on these microchips for critical features. So they are moving a lot of work trucks and stripped down models. And from what I understand, they are selling everything they can build.

And their decision to sell trucks without the microchips that enable cylinder deactivation and stop/start technology is probably going to lead to more customer satisfaction anyways.

smart move

now if they can go back to engines that only need one wire and one vacuum hose connected and nothing else, that would be pregress

While most chips are made in China, 25% are still made in vietnam/Indonesia/korea.

While most micro-chips are made in China very few of those are destined for car manufacturing are. The VAST majority of them are made by just two companies, UMC and TSMC, both in Taiwan. Currently, China doesn't compete in the high-end chip market. By and large, China produces simple micro-chips in comparison.

If I recall correctly, isn't Ford the only one of the big US automakers who refused bailout money in 2008?

When they do get caught up on microchips, is there going to be a glut of trucks unloaded on the market driving the prices down across the board?

The currently inflated used car prices will tank hard, leaving some people with some serious negative equity in their used cars.

I’m not sure if price will ever go back down.

I don't know how that works then. Used car prices are seriously almost at MSRP sticker prices. Something has to give there.

The main complaint is it is a turbo V6. Embarrassing to put a V6 in a full-size truck.

Because 430 HP and 570 lb-ft of torque is embarrassing.

Here's a hint, that's the most HP in a 1/2 ton truck outside of the dodge with the hellcat motor in it...

Or, hear me out… go back to making cars without microchips. You know, like all of the best cars ever made up until the last 20 years of turning them into computerized trash.

Exactly.

Build a bulletproof motor\transmission. Leather seats. Power windows, locks and an ice cold AC.

Screw all the rest of that worthless shite. I dont need a heated and cooled cup holder.

You can thank the government and their emissions/economy standards for this.

This. Eliminate all that, catalytic converters etc.

Give people the option of buying cars without computers.

Yes

Fact check.org bashing Ford for not taking the bailout but lobbying for it to keep their competitors solvent.

Yep, most of the features on my vehicle are untouched. Hell, I am not even sure what they all are.

Does anyone make a manual transmission anymore? I think the poverty-grade Chevy Colorado is the only pickup with a manual anymore. Maybe some specialty versions of the Toyota Tacoma.

Maybe people realized Ford sucks?

Ford does suck and their buyers don't really know any better.

But the company is likely doing everything in their power to keep F-150 production going uninterrupted. That's how they keep the lights on. The F-150 pays for everything else the company does, including the construction of their new factories in Mexico. If Ford is failing to produce F-150s because of a microchip shortage, that should set off alarms. Microchip wafers are almost as critical to our economy and national security as oil and gas. Right now, most are made in Taiwan, China, Korea and (to a lesser extent) the US.

Two major microchip manufacturing facilities are being stood up in Arizona, but it will take a year or more to be online.

Facebook Video of Kentucky Speedway

Ford is just parking trucks waiting on chips. It looks like they may not build many 2022 models as they will have plenty of 2021 models heading out too dealerships.

If things heat up around Taiwan, you'll be lucky to get ANY new truck with an engine.

China and Russia just found a way to level the odds in a theoretical war with the US

No Chips = No Technical advantage

Ford has been building some trucks without all of the required chips and holding them for delivery until the parts become available

And leaving them to sit outdoors, which is why some people have been buying brand new trucks that have rust on the under carriage.

I’ve always been a Ford guy but I have been thinking of switching my next truck to Chevy. I’ll never buy Dodge though.
