Metairie peaked in the 1980s. Unfortunately for them, the West Bank is dragging all of Jefferson Parish down.

Definitely peaked in 1980s but from Causeway to Lake is improving Old Metry still very nice even on the other side of the tracks by Pontiff. They are making some improvements at Lafreniere and better restaurants than 10 yrs ago JP Needs to step up their game to compete with St Tammany. Still has great police response time and relatively safe

Those new condos at the Clearview mall are going to age like milk. Contemporary architecture at its worst. That looks like Atlanta.

The original reasons to move out of Nola and into Metairie no longer exist at this point. Another poster mentioned N.O. East and that's not very far off.

That’s a sad statement.

I grew up in Metairie and now live in Mandeville. I always liked the getting stuff done vibe of it. White collar businesses, blue collar businesses, warehousing, etc. The traffic although congested at times flows well, as the road infrastructure is good. I had and still like Metairie.

In the Katrina aftermath, Metairie was vital to restoring NO, housing people who lost their homes but were rebuilding. Food access, blue collar businesses, workers, etc. If the levee broke on both sides of the 17th street canal the rebuilding efffort would have been a nightmare.

I like CLS as the president. She has vision and is actively improving the parish. When I come to Metairie twice a month it is noticed. I remember her doing a WWL radio interview on the morning drive. She has a program that is actively replacing water lines in the city, although the lines do not need replacement at the time. She said the plan is to methodically replace the water lines throughout the city over the next 20 years, so they don't end up overwhelmed like NO is. I was shocked that for once we had a leader who was forward thinking instead of in the moment.

And thanks to Harry Lee paving the way, JPSO is stout and tough on crime.

If Metairie is the crown jewel, then it's costume jewelry

Everything south of the lake is sinking and washing away and becoming more vulnerable to storms. This constant whipping is killing the area. I lived down there for 47 years. Saw Metairie at its high times. Other than Lakeside Mall, the place is a patched up shite hole. Most people who ride Mardi Gras see that it’s dying a slow death. Sometimes you don’t see something for what it is until you leave it. Happy for those there who love it.

I think Metairie is experiencing a quiet steady resurgence in last few years for a variety of reasons but I am more optimistic about tit now than I was a few years ago. infrastructure being improved crime low Fat city Lakeside being improved. Some beautification efforts have started more restaurants Bucktown Harbor is nicer Lafeneire park is nicer East Jefferson Hospital has had a lot of money pumped into it. Lakeway Center has some new tenants Pontiff park is nicer. Metry CC has a new golf course Clearview Mall being redeveloped etc etc some good stuff is happening

It’s just so tired and weathered looking for a suburb outside of old Metairie

But the worst of it is what’s the benefits in living in Metairie over Nola? It’s still expensive, the schools are still horrible, it isn’t clean, etc

I mean this is a suburb, and look at it. You are packed in a city like grid with tiny lots and older houses. What the hell is the point?it looks identical to a city map like Detroit

It’s just an awful suburb in every way

Metry is great. The local Yat vibe is still strong. Good people around.

St Tammany has a 30 mile advantage… not that it matters THAT much now

Agree on this. Old tiny houses that look like they smell like cat piss and cigs

No I’m thinking of Metairie where there are restaurants and other business in the middle of “neighborhoods”

Your example of Metairie sucking is a poboy shop in the middle of a neighborhood?
