Cadillac has already trialed the vehicle subscription model in NY.
Volvo has been doing that for a few years now.

BTW - just a reminder while this is fresh - data is being sold to insurance companies. Before they tried to convince you to put a tracker in your OBDII, but now they are cutting deals with the OEMs to get the data directly.
This! I got a quote with Progressive recently, and during the quote process they pulled the driving data for our Yukon straight from Onstar. Onstar never asked if I was cool with that.

Like paying for 75% of a Doctor's skills
Premium/subscription gets all Doctor's skills
A pricing game

Yeah freak them. Did they tell you they were going to do it and if you could opt out of it? I haven't shopped for car ins in a long time. Good to know how they are doing it.
Even if you didn't go with them, I bet they keep your data in their system. Now think about how connecting your phone via bluetooth and how that dumps your whole phone into the cares hardware and then it gets transmitted to the OEM.
Now think that now their are 2 new sources that can be subpoenaed if someone wants your car/phone data.

This is like a restaurant charging you for your meal and then tacking on a surcharge if you want to eat said meal.

quote:yea I discovered this the other day when doing insurance for my new car. They automatically enrolled me for drive safe and save due to the features on the car with no option out of it.

So basically, you are paying them to undo putting a governor on your car?

Once that manufacturer warranty is done, jailbreak the frick out of it.

Savvy move by Mercedes. Nicely done.

I’ll pay for an acceleration subscription when they pry my gasoline powered 480 horsepower 6-speed Tremec transmission Mustang Mach 1 from my cold dead fingers.

I think that BS started with BMW or EVs.

There should be issues with paying for hardware on the car that can't be used unless you subscribe for it.
It should be disclosed on the window sticker what features on the vehicle are subscription based kind of like ingredients on food products. I don’t know if it is or not required on cars.

Seems like this would increase the value of the older models that don’t have this sort of nonsense
