Do you see a preacher driving a used Toyota and not an Audi as "unfortunate" ? I was saying this in regards to preachers, not the homeless or sick.

This board is ridiculous in how it conflates large, independent churches with Creflo Dollar/Joel Osteen churches.
I don't know about you, but I see a liquor store robber and a multi million dollar white collar criminal as equally despicable. Stealing money from 250 dumb people or stealing it from 250,000 makes no difference in how heinous the act is.

The same women would be, or are, caught up in various pyramid schemes, so they're gonna get taken either way. These churches have just figured out a way to do it really easily

That's great, it just has nothing to do with my comment.
A ton of really large churches get lumped in with Osteen-like prosperity gospel fraud churches, and it's the product of lazy criticism.
For disclosure, my church is good sized but not mega- nor independent.

Not disparaging you or your church, but for reference, what vehicle does your pastor drive and how large / approximate value is his / her house?

Traditional church attendance is declining. Places like church of the highlands are exploding in attendance. Maybe it’s the traditional churches that need to retool.

I’m for for churches and religion as long as they’re doing good in peoples’ lives, however, the money flowing through some of these places is ridiculous and it’s really shameful to see it pay for a new “coffee shop” or Pastor Jeff’s brand new tan. Many churches are out there trying to live like Jesus, but there are just as many scamming the people for their hard earned money, justifying it as God’s blessings. Mega churches are scams. Cults for money.

1. Where are the pics of the hot milfs?
2. Why do hate Jesus?

Back in the 90s, I had a friend in high school whose father was the pastor of a somewhat decent sized black church.
My understanding (from my friend) was that the church paid the pastor a decent, but not very large, salary. Say $50K a year.
However, the church owned a 4100 sq ft "Parsonage" uptown that they lived in, rent free. The church owned two escalades, which the pastor and his wife (who was an "employee" got to drive at no cost. And every year, the church made a "donation" to our private school that was, coincidentally I'm sure, equal to the cost of tuition.

Because to many young people, traditional church is boring AF.

in addition to a parsonage, most pastors get a "housing allowance" each month. this is money set aside from their monthly salary that is not taxed. they are supposed to use this money for things around the house, but can obviously pocket it if they want.

I went to a multi-thousand member church growing up with an auditorium-style sanctuary led by the guy who started the church. For all practical purposes to an outsider it was "his church." For his 30th anniversary with the church the executive board got him...a brand new Ford Ranger. It was the first new vehicle he'd ever owned. I can only guess at his house value but I've seen it and know the area since it's my hometown..200-250k?
As for my current church, I don't know his home value, but he lives in a hipster area of town with his family so I'm guessing 300-350ish. This is intown Atlanta. He drives a Toyota Tacoma.

Not just Mega Church, one of my childhood friends has a church in small town Louisiana.
He and the wife drive brand new vehicles, live in a 500K+ home and travel 3-4 times a year.
All paid for by the lord

Also where all the money goes that they take in. My church does this.
Its not the amount of money that goes into a church that's bad, it's how it's handled once it's there. There are some good churches in Baton Rouge that benefit the community in ways most people don't see until you have a disaster like Katrina.

There is a recent theme/discussion that young people are starting to turn away from the auditorium/praise and worship model a bit and prefer a bit more structure. I don't know if that's true, but it's a topic (the rising appeal of liturgy to this generation).

you see this sounds reasonable. There are people who get into the preaching business because they truly believe it is a good thing to do and they have nothing but good intentions. That was my angle here. Organized religion, when followed and not used for personal gain or violence, is a positive thing. It generally teaches people to not be assholes at its core, no matter the flavor of the almighty chosen.
Radical Islam / Christianity / Judaism where violence is used, pedophile sickos in positions of influence and power, megachurches, even large independent churches where the leaders are wealthy, are where I draw my ire.
