Megachurch as a business

The average ‘megachurch’ in a suburban community has, in my limited view, several common elements: a charismatic pastor who owns the church; a ‘board’ of advisors, but no real legal or meaningful role in governance; a 501(c)(3) tax exemption; lots of cash.
Bonus items: hot MILFs who believe mindlessly and are happy to shell out cash almost without question.
Even if it’s not actually ‘mega’ but smaller, it seems like a profitable business model to me.
Is there anyway to determine how much money these guys make? I know about the ‘big time’ guys with jets, mansions, and private islands. But the smaller guys appear to be doing pretty well for themselves too.
Seems like there are also a lot of smaller ‘megachurches’ that aren’t quite as ‘mega’ but still pulling in the cash. I know not everyone can go rent out an old T G & Y and start preaching, but seems like there are a lot of ‘non-denominational churches’ popping up.
Is this a question not to be asked?

Their salaries should be listed on the church's public 990 forms. See guidestar.org.

I tried ‘guidestar.org’ and for every ‘church’ I looked up, I got this response:
quote:
This organization is not required to file an annual return with the IRS because it is a church.

The traditional churches have fueled the rise of the megachurch and the smaller ones as well. It will end up being the convenience store or dollar store of churches.
Keep in mind, the Stanford investors preyed on these people at Bethany and Healing Place and these people lost a lot of money from the shady investment firm crooks.
Good luck with that.
I'll stick to the traditional church.

There’s no denying the leadership structure of these types of churches pays very well (as long as you are top of the pyramid).
The board members are usually successful/wealthy business owners who decide investment strategies.
With that said, just because a church uses this structure it doesn’t make it automatically “bad”. The pressures to make returns on investments can, however, increase the chances of bad theology/self help being taught with a shallow approach.

As a middle aged suburban resident, I cannot understate the immense pressure there is on our family to attend one of the local mega churches - Church Of the Highlands. Between our 2 teenage kids, I'd guess around 70% of their friends attend this particular church. They grumble all the time that we don't attend that church with their friends, and their friends' parents are constantly inviting us to attend that church with them. I've lost cost at how many campuses they have around town, but one of them is close to my neighborhood and the attendees use my street as a cut-through every Sunday morning. Getting anywhere on a Sunday morning is a PITA.

I remember good old Deano Rizzo. Had a beautiful million dollar home and a gorgeous wife. Then he got caught fricking the 18 year old audio visual girl (who was quite pretty as well). It’s good to be the pastor

I attend for the rockin' jesus rock show and to watch videos on why I should adopt a Central American migrant's children via a convenient monthly ACH debit from my checking acct.

Are a big reason for a decline in Christianity. They are monkey circus performers. Makes me sick.

Preying on the weak minded is and always has been good business. Some have it down to a science and have a lack of shame or empathy, letting them take it further and further.
I highly doubt that any supreme being that is benevolent would want his creations giving their earthly possessions and labor to someone on his behalf.
If we devoted more time to self discovery and connection with the universe, it would probably do us much much more good than literally paying for a 2000 year old gift wrapped set of ideas that are impossible to fact check and very difficult to question without severe ridicule from the community that is "all in."

The Pastor has to have a closet full of $200 Robert Graham shirts, like this:

This board is ridiculous in how it conflates large, independent churches with Creflo Dollar/Joel Osteen churches.
