I'm surprised they're still in business.
It doesn't hurt that they are one of the largest real estate companies in the world and RE is their single largest revenue source.
That being said I would be far more surprised if someone said Wendy's or Burger King was going under. The one of each of the three on my way home from work always has a line at McDonald's where it is rare to see more than one car in the BK or Wendy's drive-through.

[quote]I bet it also discourages a lot of people from getting refills. Especially the refill when people are leaving and don't really want anymore drink but its right there so why not?
If you ate inside, they used to come by your table and offer to take your cup and refill it....or take your tray if you're finished. Not sure if that's still the case.

Thread incoming from the high BMI folks.
“1st world problems”. I walked in to McDonald’s to order. They screwed up my xl coke and I’m stuck in traffic on 30a.

if they are trying to actively discourage people from using the dining room and focus more on drive thru business
This.
They pretty much killed dining room business with Covid and their current model isn’t much different, as they don’t want to have counter help. Those individuals only come out when your kiosk order is completed.
Going drive thru only kills the requirements to keep desk staff and maintain the dining room and bathrooms to a certain level.

Who the hell eats inside a McDonald's now except old men at 6 am and travelers passing through on a road trip because they couldn't find a Buccees?

Why should drink refills be free? Do you get more fries when you run out? How about chicken nuggets?

Wendy's has a debt to asset ratio of 94%. I was thinking of grabbing a few shares but that made me reconsider.

honestly, is it though?
how many extremely obese members of our society do you think are contributors? meaning their 'life style' isn't subsidized by taxpayers.

McDonald's is clearly moving away from "eat in" business.
This is it. The profit margin on drive through customers is much better. No drink refills, no maintaining a dining area, no maintaining restrooms, no having to kick out bums and yutes.

I won’t even lie. I love McDonald’s. I’m not too proud to admit it. And as I get older I love Big Macs more and more.

Who goes sit down to eat inside a fast food restaurant?

Don't let a single anecdotal bit of information dissuade you. I haven't been in that Wendy's in over 10 years, it may just be horribly run.

Charging for refills on fountain drinks is complete bullshite.
When I was a kid (70s-EARLY 80s), my mom and dad would tell me at restaurants not to drink my Coke too fast because I wasn't getting another one. Not bec of health or caffeine issues. But because if you wanted a refill, it was the same prices as the original soda.

Im not saying I don't eat at McDonalds, but it ain't often. And when I do, there are usually no other options than being hungry.
