NEW ORLEANS — Dozens of police officers were on the scene of a mass shooting when gunfire lit up Canal Street early Sunday morning and wounded 10 people.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Canal Street during a busy Bayou Classic weekend. New Orleans Police Chief Shaun Ferguson said the streets were so crowded at the time of the shooting, patrolling officers couldn’t see who had the gun.
“We had officers right there within that very block that actually thought they were being fired upon and took a position to respond to this,” Ferguson said.
No officers were hit, but 10 others were. The victims were being treated at University Medical Center and Tulane Medical Center, with two people listed in critical condition Monday morning. One of those victims was shot in the chest and the other in the torso.

Weird that so many shootings happen during the Bayou Classic.

What's her plan to stop these senseless shootings that tend to occur annually around Thanksgiving?
Seems like she just bloviating.

Come on. Most crime rates are down. Jobs are up.
We have a long freaking way to go. But the city is the best now it's been probably since before the oil bust.

I don't live in NOLA, idiot. I also keep seeing news of murders, homeless, and the same dog shite I saw when I lived there two years ago.
So I asked, what progress? Goddamn you are just a raging a-hole.

The idiot thugs had to aim carefully to miss the police officers on the block.
Yeah, I don't know what she can do, realistically.

Thank you for a non-dickhead response, good to see NOLA finally making some changes.

so why are you so mad about it if you no longer live there? i don't post online to take shots at Norfolk, VA because i don't fricking live there and i don't really care about what happens there.
maybe you don't know about progress in the city because you don't fricking live there.

If madam mayor really wanted progress she would ask SU and Grambling to host it somewhere else.
Theres no reason to have it in New Orleans.

To this day I still do not understand the "homeless" complaints about nola. Downtown, uptown, the fq whatever I see the same amount of homeless now as I did 10 years ago, and 10 years ago it wasn't bad at all for a city the size of nola.
There's tons to complain about nola, but the relatively small homeless population is pretty far down the list imo.
