This argument is just plain stupid. Never have rules because the government may abuse them.

How do you feel about someone who is diagnosed with Schizophrenia and publicly threatens to shoot up a government facility?

I'm with you on the vagueries of the term "severely mentally ill" but certain personality disorders that often predispose a person to violence could be identified as a red flag. The biggest issue, though, is confidentiality. That would be the rub, ultimately.

Can’t believe this cat is still at large. I bet he’s killed himself already.

No it isn’t. 90% of American could probably come to agreement on a solution. However, trust is gone. Americans fear the other side will use any power available to crush all dissenters.

Speaking of stupid arguments, do you think we don't already have rules?

3/4 of this thread are Progressives spouting their usual shite and people responding. Can we please just keep this thread for updates and have another thread where the leftists can show their asses? Or...just ignore when the usual suspects post? Jester, ChiGator, BowlJackson, McGrath....just ignore these morons?

Thanks in advance.

Never have laws the government can weaponize for their own self benefit over the people.

The argument is that there shouldn't be a rule to prevent access to firearms for a person with Card's profile because the government might abuse it. Pure stupidity.

The type of laws being called for were in place for the Sutherland Springs Church shooting. But someone in Government dropped the ball on the paperwork.

What does that "rule" look like?

I don't think he killed himself yet. He seems to have had plans to switch cars or go by boat / foot. When LE closes in he likely will.

At this point it is pretty amazing that he shot up 2 locations and didn't get in a fight with LE leaving either one. In the one photo he is looking through the scope expecting there to be some response already. He is probably shocked he has gotten as far as he has.

Whatever those assholes are asking for, just assume they're asking for 12 steps beyond that

Do you really think reservists get some sort of special low-quality training that is somehow inferior to the training of regular enlisted and commissioned officers?

You do realize that a majority of people that serve are not in front line combat units right. Guys that are Rangers, Spec Ops or Marines will retain their training. The average box kicker or mechanic that goes in the reserves won’t be getting the training to make them Jason Bourne.

What kind of training do you think they're getting and at what frequency?

It’s time to start torturing people that murder and broadcasting it on live TV.

Yep. Although it's clear from us releasing every criminal early and from this shooter still being free after threatening to shoot up a government facility that locking everyone up isn't the goal. They need you earning money/paying taxes, not costing them money to lock up/feed

Lol we already hear the screams that video games are making people violent. What will torturing people on tv do? Spring up a buncha wannabe Dexters?

A lot of guys in the reserves were on active duty at one time. Front line or not, they get arms training. This guy was apparently an arms instructor if I recall the initial article so I would assume he remembered those things from his time in training.

I took the Jason Bourne comment as tongue in cheek since there are really no Jason Bournes, though there are elite troops who are unlikely to be in the reserves.

My point is that pretending a reservist can't possibly have training that makes him more deadly than the average guy and being dismissive of reservists in general is disingenuous.
