He’s trained military, did the shooting at nightfall, left his car at a boat ramp.
Not hard to believe he had snorkeling gear there.

Guys, this is the type of person that should not own weapons and still idiots on here will defend him. What will it take to wake up?
TIL that not wanting to throw the baby out with the bathwater = defending a mentally ill shooter.

has threatened to shoot up a military facility, has schizophrenic history
First of all, threatening to shoot up a national guard base is a major felony, so he should be locked up
Secondly, he is supposedly schizophrenic so, combined with that felony…he should be locked up
This isn’t adding up at all.
A guy openly commits felonies and is schizo yet can meticulously plan this out while walking freely among us? If you know anything about schizos, true schizos, they aren’t planning anything this meticulously AND executing it flawlessly.

Person A has extensive experience with weapons, has threatened to shoot up a military facility, has schizophrenic history or similar…. Yet has unfettered access to weapons
What is argument against this? Seems this profile is exactly the kind of person who shouldn't have access to guns?

I would think so.

The pictures of the actual shooter and the pictures of this Card guy look nothing alike to me. The shooter looks like a 25 year old college kid and this Card dude looks 45 and fatter
The guy in the security camera still shots has a bunch of gray in his beard, almost the whole bottom half.

That, to me, ends 90% of this discussion. He committed a major felony. Anything that happens beyond that has nothing to do with existing gun legislation. The issue here is not enforcing BASIC laws already on the books.
If anyone wants to cry and claim our society has failed, start there and end there. Our justice system should have had a guy like this committed or in prison in the first place.

I haven't seen a single person defend this piece of filth.

Agreed, but some would defend this severely mentally ill person's right to access to firearms.

You do realize every reservist goes through the same training as active duty? And the majority are former active duty soldiers?

If they are severely mentally ill enough, they should be detained through the already established legal means.

Maybe the same basic, but past that its not the same..While Active, you train basically everyday while a Reserve is once a month, sometimes less..

you could go straight in as a reservist..
honestly, weekend warriors and all day reservists were the worst part of the checkins after being on Active Duty..
the worst part of this story is waking up to it and not knowing until hitting TD

In bootcamp, yes. But that’s not entirely true beyond that. Active duty military has way more access and avenues for advanced training.
There’s a reason everyone goes through “basic” training.

I think you missed the point
I’m not advocating for gun control, I’m pointing how stupid all this political grandstanding is in the wake of these incidents

It’s a little more nuanced than that. Some would hesitate to set that rule because “severely mentally ill” is vague. While no one wouldn’t like to be able to go back in time and take this guy’s gun away, giving the government the power to take away guns will always be a power that is stretched and abused.
You let the government take away guns from the “severely mentally ill”, and it’s just a small jump to label anyone who, say, questions the result of an election “severely mentally ill.” They must be crazy to think that Biden didn’t actually get 81 million votes, right?

I have a friend who was an airborne ranger and then a reservist. I also have a nephew who went through the beginning of special forces training before he was injured and reassigned to a regular unit. He was a reservist until about a year ago.
Do you really think reservists get some sort of special low-quality training that is somehow inferior to the training of regular enlisted and commissioned officers?
Posted on 10/26/23 at 7:48 am to Jack Bauers HnK
Or make people scared to admit and get help for mental illness. Just like pilots.
Posted on 10/26/23 at 7:49 am to GrammarKnotsi
Like I said, most reservists/guardsmen are prior active duty. Not to mention we rely so much on the reserve/guard units that we are constantly drilling and/or on active duty. I've been in reserve status for six years and have been active for three. The weekend warrior thing died after 9/11

Can someone give a morning update? I can't read through all the BS that has popped up on this thread and just want the latest.
Thanks.
Thanks.

It’s called basic for a reason
