A public high school has been accused of radical Islamic indoctrination by forcing children to profess the Muslim statement of faith, ordering them to memorize the Five Pillars of Islam and teaching that the faith of a Muslim is stronger than the average Christian, according to a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday.
Thomas More Law Center filed the lawsuit on behalf of John and Melissa Wood. They accuse La Plata High School in Maryland of subjecting their teenage daughter to Islamic indoctrination and propaganda. And when Mr. Wood complained – the school banned him from campus.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court, alleges that students spent only one day studying Christianity and two weeks studying Islam.
“During its brief instruction on Christianity, Defendants failed to cover any portion of the Bible or other non-Islamic religious texts, such as the Ten Commandments,” the lawsuit states. “Instead, the class included disparaging remarks about Christianity and the Pope.”

Based in the details presented the school and the parents who are suing both look ridiculous.

Back when I was in high school, we studied Islam (including the Five Pillars, of which the First Pillar is the profession of faith) in World History.
To the best of my knowledge, not one of us is a Muslim today.
You can study these religions, it's beliefs, etc. while still respecting the separation of church and state in public settings.

I agree. My son who's in 8th grade is learning this very subject right now in his world history class. But it looks like this school has crossed the line from teaching to propagandizing.

We don't know if the school crossed the line or not. The linked article is very editorialized.

Such BS. They probably mentioned the word Islam in a class along with other religions and this patriot hero wannabe parent went all bonkers.

It's clearly ridiculous to claim that the school forced students to convert to Islam.

I believe it is an editorial. But if these things are true....
quote:
According to copies of classroom assignments, the school taught that “Most Muslims’ faith is stronger than the average Christian.”
quote:
“During its brief instruction on Christianity, Defendants failed to cover any portion of the Bible or other non-Islamic religious texts, such as the Ten Commandments,” the lawsuit states. “Instead, the class included disparaging remarks about Christianity and the Pope.”
Then the school has crossed the line from teaching about Christianity and Islam from a historic standpoint and instead are promoting one over the other. That's a textbook violation of the Constitution.

That is almost certainly true, FWIW.
