quote:

It doesn't surprise me that you can't be honest

when was the last time those passages of the Bible were used in doctrine in any meaningful scale? the 1500s? 1600s?

when was the last time those passages of the Koran were used in doctrine in any meaningful scale? probably about 15 seconds ago somewhere

yeah i'm not religious and it's utterly ridiculous to me to compare Christianity to Islam in either holy book or practice in reality

I said the Bible. Just like those who profess that everything in the Quran came from Muhammad

I understand that. I am aware that a very very small minority of Muslims report to violence in the name of religion. That's not my point.

wait

are you comparing the old testament to things that Mohammed may not have actually written in the Koran?

pretty sure the Koran is all Mohammed

your argument would be more with the Hadith, even though that is purported to be the word of Mohammed as well (and gets really nasty)

yeah your point is to use a historical document for Christianity (the New Testament) as the religious teachings of Christianity

which makes no sense

Back when I was in high school, we studied Islam (including the Five Pillars, of which the First Pillar is the profession of faith) in World History.

To the best of my knowledge, not one of us is a Muslim today.

You can study these religions, it's beliefs, etc. while still respecting the separation of church and state in public settings.

Muhammed was illiterate and ignorant of many things in the Quran. He cold not even orraly express such intricate information, as history tells us. He likely did not write or cite it.

One of the best classes I took in college was a religion course that covered 15 of the major world religions. Most Christians wouldn't believe how they would more identify with dao or Buddha

well considering the genesis of all religions is unreliable and it's all made up and written after the fact, that's not really a point

I teach Social Studies (ancient civ) to sixth graders. In the text we use, there are far more pages devoted to explaining the tenets of Islam than there are to explaining the tenets of Christianity or Judaism. There are many more pages devoted to Hinduism and Buddhism as well.
