Someone you can talk to without all the contrived bullshite you "think" you are supposed to talk about. Someone you can make laugh, when not actually telling a joke and vice versa. Someone that you respect and respects you. Someone that is OK if you go play golf or whatever and doesn't need constant validation. Someone you enjoy spending time with (beyond the 15-minute sexy time).

Obvious things such as attractive (differs per person and their likes). Educated to a similar degree as yourself. As far as common interests, not too much as different interests may open each of you up to new things, but at the same time if you have dramatically opposing political or religious views that's got to be hard long term.
