re: Anybody here married a playboy/penthouse girl?

Let me be honest. I have a face like a fist and a body just this side of Jabba the Hut. So no, not even if I was worth billions could I pull something like that.

re: What’s your order at Chimes?
Posted by Cali-to-Death Valley on 11/15/25 at 12:12 am to CrawfishElvis
Sauteed crab fingers with an order of crab meat stuffed mushrooms. Eat the crab fingers first, then pour th remaining crab finger sauce over the mushrooms. FYI, make sure you have your cardiologist on speed dial.

I've coached HS football for many years.A few years back services like HUDL allowed you to retrieve a metric report from info you downloaded. Two weeks ago I was talking to an opposing AD after our game who told me he and the head basketball coach were actively having a group of students working on an AI assist for their basketball team. He said if it helps, they'll definitely suggest using AI to the football program. In reality though, the bottom line is that it will always be more about the Jimmy's and Joe's, than the X's and O's.

Not weird to us, because my mother was from Naples, but it is to most non-Italians and 3+ generation Italian-Americans I know, pasta e patate, which is pasta with potatoes. I still eat it during the winter months. My Irish wife thinks its gross.
re: Why do bald guys think the shaved head looks good?
Posted by Cali-to-Death Valley on 9/21/25 at 12:21 am to Slippy
Lost my hair when I had chemo in 2012. Prior to that I had started male pattern baldness. When my hair started to grow back, it came back in small patches. Looked like I had the mange. Started shaving my head because it just looked better. Tried letting my hair grow back last year just to see if it changed. Nope. Same mangy look. Patch here, patch there. Gonna keep shaving my head.
re: What is your favorite day of the week?
Posted by Cali-to-Death Valley on 9/16/25 at 1:30 pm to Lucky McTuesday
This time of year it's Friday/Saturday-can't decide between the two. I coach HS football and there are very few things (at least to me) that bring communities together as much as Friday night HS football games. I coach, 40 miles north of San Francisco, where HS football is that slice of Americana that exists in an area that is perceived to want to do away with Americana.
Saturdays means LSU football, a day that gathers my adult children, their spouses, my grandchildren and some close friends to our house for the games. It is so great to be surounded by those you love. Gathering for LSU games at our house has been a tradition for over 35 years, that culminates every year where 50+ people arrive at our place for LSU-bama, which always aligns on the weekend we play our crosstown rivals in the "Egg Bowl". When the games are finished, and as I watch the last car leave, I thank God for such a blessing and realize what a lucky man I am.

re: People who's nostrils whistle as they breathe in
Posted by Cali-to-Death Valley on 8/7/25 at 1:36 am to Saunson69
Growing up I shared a room with my two younger brothers. One had the whistling nostril syndrome and the other constantly talked in his sleep. Even putting my pillow over my head couldn't drown out the noise they made. I think I went 10-12 years without sleep.
re: San Francisco is having its coldest summer since 1982 apparently
Posted by Cali-to-Death Valley on 7/23/25 at 1:17 am to 777Tiger
Nope. I live 40 miles north of SF, and we are usually in th high 80's this time of year. Have broken the mid-60's only 5 times this summer. We really haven't a summer yet.
re: What is the oldest, still-working appliance in your home?

Does a water heater count. Ours is 31 years old and still working like a champ.
re: Here's one reason the San Francisco Bay Area real estate is so expensive
Posted by Cali-to-Death Valley on 6/21/25 at 3:11 pm to TigerintheNO
I've lived in the Bay Area my entire life. I always marvel at tourists shivering their way across the Golden Gate Bridge in tank tops, shorts and flip-flops on a mid July afternoon when the fog is pouring in, the wind is blowing at 35 miles an hour, its 52 degrees will a wind chill of about 45.
There is a cool thing about the City, it can be foggy, windy and misserably cold in the Sunset, but sunny, still and temperate in North Beach/China Town, all within a 15 miute drive of each other.

re: Who is the earliest born person you have ever met?

My paternal grandfather was born in Napoli in 1899. I got to meet him 5 or 6 times. He passed away in 1974, my junior year in high school.

re: Have you ever felt unwelcome in a small town?
Posted by Cali-to-Death Valley on 5/16/25 at 5:26 pm to TDTOM
Yes. Francavilla a Mare, a small beach town in Abruzzo, Italy. Should be renamed the Hills Have Eyes of Italy. From the second we got out of our car, every person we walked by gave us the evil eye. I speak fluent Nnapulitano, the same language they speak in Abruzzo. Didn't matter I was speaking their language, people refused to respond. The only two responses I got were at two separate restaurants, who refused to serve us, both telling me they served only locals. Got back in the car, drove to Pescara and had a great time.
