I understand that, but most private schools are better than most public schools in the EBRSS.

I lived in both Mississippi and Louisiana (back and forth) growing up.
I am so thankful I was able to attend private school in Louisiana.. I would have hated going to public school here. I did go to public school in Mississippi and loved it as well.

As generations did this, the public schools became filled with students whose parents didn't give a shite and began to spiral downhill. The same cycle continued and here we are today.
I agree with most of what you wrote, but just don’t blame white people for the schools going to shite. That’s not a fair conclusion. White people leaving the public schools should not have caused some inevitable decline in the public schools.

Blame the Federal court decision that caused it.

I'm really surprised to see Wisconsin and Nebraska on that list. Are Milwaukee schools that bad?

Nebraska surprised me. I've spent a decent amount of time there and outside of one area of Omaha it's a sea of crackers.

Need to keep in mind the public schools in burbs of Houston are better than private schools in Louisiana.
Also paying no state income tax in TX. Sure property taxes are higher but certainly come out ahead. Not to mention great schools, car insurance is 1/2, house insurance cheaper, Electric, etc...

After seeing what EBR parish spends per child and what Cy-Fair ISD and Katy ISD spends per child with fantastic schools its mind boggling the amount of corruption in the EBR parish school system.
EBR spends $10,755.00 per student
Zachary $9,780.00 per student
Katy ISD $8,596.00 per student.
Cy_Fair spends $7,967.00 per student.
I can tell you that Cy-Fair is building 4-5 new schools every year and constantly upgrading.
Starting teacher salary in Cy-Fair ISD is $53K with BS. EBR $44,500.00 with a BA degree,$48,400.00 with a PHD.
One has to wonder what EBR is spending their money on.

And add to the fact that Katy, Cypress, etc. all have neighborhood schools. And the kids can possibly be with one another form kinder to 12th grade just adds to the fact that they are doing something right.
All thee of my kid's schools are in the same complex (well the new middle school is yet to be built). They are in my actual neighborhood and they are just amazing schools.
This is a freaking high school.

Had a niece transfer to a private school from there. She was almost two years behind.

Define better in this instance.

Iberville actually has great public options if your kid isn't an idiot. And their ACT scores reflect that.
What's the average ACT score for that parish?
I bet it's 20 or below.

In reading some of the hatred for Houston on this site, many say Houston burbs ISDs on par with Zachary, Prarieville, etc
..I don't think they comprehend the difference in magnitude of the schools.

Well that's a broad brush. What are you using to make this comparison?

My conclusion is that if I want my child to have a decent education in this state then I would have to get him into a Magnet/Charter school or go the private school route
Wrong, there are decent public schools. You may not get a "great" education if you go the public school route, but you can definitely receive a "decent" education if you go that route.
With that said, I'm still going the private route with my future children.

Excuse my ignorance, but if Louisiana has a high percentage of kids in private schools then wouldn't that mean there is technically more money per kid in public schools?
Kinda. LA is like 23rd in spending per student. Higher than most in the south, lower than the national average, but a overall the median.
