The problem with using ACT scores in state rankings is that every student in Louisiana is required to take it.

Is this true? I don't think that I was required to take it 10-15 years ago.

My wife and I both products of Louisiana public education including college degree. Today though our kids are in a Catholic school. Class size is 15 max, my kids Spanish teacher is a Spanish national, chemistry and English tacher have PhD's, etc. Massive difference.

Local schools are mostly engaged in crowd control. They do the best they can with huge numbers.

Tricky subject but my kids are my highest priority and im willing to invest $'s in their education. I'd like to think I'd save the dollars i spend on tuition but know I'd piss it away on beers and sports bets.

All PUBLIC school students are required to take it. Been that way for the last 4 - 5 years. I will agree there are some fantastic private schools in Louisiana and if you live in an area with one, feel free to spend the 12k - 15k a year they are going to require. I live in a parish with very good public schools and very mediocre private ones. If the state and feds would just let our teachers teach and parents would take care of discipline at home, La public education system would improve immensely.

When my son became school aged I decided to move to Texas. Blue ribbon education for free, baby! I couldn't be happier.

I think it's worth pointing out that without private schools, education in public schools would be even worse.
Yes, competition rarely hurts. Plus, I'd bet the majority of those people sending their children to private school are still having money extorted from them to fund public schools via property tax.

Many of the mom and pop Catholic schools in this state barely stay open

WTF are you talking about?

"Mom and Pop" Catholic schools?

There is no such thing. Catholic schools are run by the archdiocese, the diocese, and/or by a religious order (Jesuits, Dominicans, Franciscans, etc).

Not some "Mom and Pop" operation.

It's spelled "altar". If you had a decent education yourself, you'd know how to spell that, you bigoted SOB.

Surprise surprise. Private institutions are better than taxpayer funded ones. OMFG, Shocker.

This is untrue in places where the entire community values education and their child's experience at school. Northern Virginia public schools are better than most of the private schools in the area outside of a few incredibly bougie prep type boarding schools.
