How many of you Louisiana baws have experienced this place? A friend took me in the 80's and I really enjoyed it despite not being Catholic.

It is amazing. Anyone can benefit from spending some time to reflect, in a structured and beautiful setting. The Ignatian Spiritual Exercises can be helpful, depending on the quality of the retreat master, but the best part is the silence.

Every year weekend after Mardi Gras going on year 5

I can't wait for it every year. Always learn something new about yourself and a great way to recharge, even more so after the long holiday weekend.

All but two guys are Catholic in our group.

I just go fishing to get some alone time in a quiet, peaceful and structured environment.

You should do it. I did it with my Dad a few times. Since he passed I have not gone. My dad said there was an open invite for any of his sons or SILs. He would pay and get us in.

I should look into going again.

Yes after opening dinner is over no speaking until departure lunch.

The only "speaking" is during prayer/mass.

Yes. Just you and your thoughts. It's quite the experience.

Funny story: when people don't talk you imagine what they sound like. When I was there, there was a guy about 6'3" and very athletic. I just knew he had a deep voice. When it was over he said hi to me with this higher pitched squeal and it really through me off. Nice guy though.

If I remember correctly, every week has a "head man" you need to contact them and get on the list. Some weeks may be full, some may have openings.

THere should be info on that website.

I really want to do it. How hard is it to find a spot these days?
I know several people who go every year, but when I had tried to get some time slots with them it was always full it seemed.

Yes, silence from Friday at 10:00 through Sunday Lunch.

There is a cocktail social Friday evening then at 10:00 the "retreat" starts (silence). There are lectures, prayers etc... so it is not complete silence, but You should not be speaking just listening, thinking and maybe praying.....

Been going for 22 years. It's defiantly something that I look forward to every year. Not a Catholic.
