How has LA 22 not been fully widened by now?
Widening 22 wouldn’t help much if everything still bottlenecked back to one lane at the Tchefuncte draw bridge. And there’s not really enough room to widen to 4 lanes on the Madisonville side with the existing businesses right there.

I propose a new Madisonville bridge that crosses the river south of town. A southern loop. Probably get it before BR gets theirs

Took them forever to build the I12 bridge over the Tchefuncte, how long do you think it will take to widen LA22?

Took me 49 minutes to get from dtown covington to I-12 on 190 earlier.

Like where the frick are these people going? I get the traffic coming back from Nola. But all these people are just stuck waiting to get on 12.

A relatively cheap alternative (even if interim) would be to widen the on-ramp approaches on 190 getting on I-12. Another lane of asphalt would at least get much of the traffic waiting to get on 12 off the thoroughfare and alleviate traffic on 190

With that said, the pinnacle entrance to I-12 needs to be permanently closed.

Especially heading East.

The merge lane is only a hundred yards (give or take) entering I-12...as it crosses the river.

Sheer lunacy.

Second, much more difficult issue, is the draw bridge in Madisonville being the only way over south of I-12.

And they need to stop opening the damn draw bridge on 22 except for very specific hours during non peak time

South of town accomplishes nothing. Your forgetting traffic coming down from Hwy 21 and 1077. All converging in Madisonville. This guy beat you to it:

Madisonville Toll Bridge

Care to guess how many vehicles cross that little old draw bridge every day?? Hint: it starts with "16,000".

I would think you could draw a better mock up with so much time to spare.

I love the Mandeville / Covington / Abita Springs area. I hated to leave. Beautiful place. Made some enduring friendships there. Fond memories.

little known fact
Hammond is everything you like about mandeville minus the traffic (and the schools). If you can deal with private school it’s a much higher quality of life instead of fighting your way in and out every time you want to leave the house

Sorry but no it’s not. If it were, you wouldn’t have to send your kids to private schools. Mandeville is small and pretty and Hammond is not.

small and pretty? LOL
it was small and pretty a long time ago
I grew up there in the 70s and it was straight up rural charm

unless strip malls and gridlock are your idea of pretty

They should make the center lane of Hwy 22 a fast pass lane that lets you ride the middle all the way to your favorite bar! Everyone else can wait, they obviously done have to be anywhere impotlrtant.

dude you can make all manner of arguments about quality of life in mandeville. It has many good reasons to live there as evidenced by how crowded it is

small and pretty are not among those reasons

just looked at the traffic map app out of curiosity
gridlock both north and south bound on 190 to westbound I12

it is 2pm on a Sunday afternoon
I can drive thru downtown Hammond right now and I might see a dozen cars
